GSE seeks a Network Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and to provide network engineering assistance using Cisco Networking Devices, VPN, Firewalls, Instruction Prevention Systems/Intrusion Detection Systems (IPS/IDS), Network Monitoring Software, and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. The position is located at Fort Belvoir, VA.
A day in the life (a general sampling of the things you may do in a given day):
- Support system installations, problem solving and testing to ensure the availability, validity and reliability of the DSMSS networks
- Establish network specifications; analyzing network traffic and diagnoses connectivity issues, access, information, and security requirements; design router administration including interface configuration and routing protocols
- Engineering network architecture
- Performing system modernization/lifecycle refresh of networked systems to include researching, proof of concept, testing, installing deploying, and maintaining equipment
- Evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency; plans and executes the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls
- Maintain network performance; perform network monitoring and analysis, and perform tuning; troubleshoots network problems
- Secure network by developing and properly configuring network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintain documentation
- Work closely with User Support to provide seamless support to all users for all network issues
- Administering printers, routers, switches, network Kernel-based Virtual Machines (KVMs), firewalls, software deployment, security updates and patches
- Coordinate with communications centers for access to the backbone unclassified and classified networks
- Work with hardware/software vendors to maintain the network systems
- Validate system network components under the NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Program
- Providing management and installation of Tactical FASTLINE (TACLANE) KG175 device, assisting the DSMS Government COMSEC manager in program oversight
What we are expecting from you (i.e., the qualifications you must have):
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience
- Federal government experience preferred
- ACTIVE Secret security clearance
- Security +
