About the Job
As a Maintenance Painter, you will perform skilled work in finishing surfaces of, and painting, state-owned facilities. Work is performed in accordance with standard practices of the trade.

A Day in the Life
- Prepares surfaces to be painted or refinished with sandpaper, burners, scrapers, sanding machines, primers, caulking, or plastering.
- Erects ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment necessary to complete the job and spreads drop cloths, tarpaulins, and other protective equipment.
- Mixes paints and color ingredients and matches or harmonizes paints with existing surfaces.
- Paints and/or applies other surface finishes to walls, ceilings, window frames, woodwork, curbs, roadways, furniture, equipment, and other interior and exterior structural parts.
- Hangs wallpaper, paints signs, stencils letters on doors, and refinishes furniture.
What You'll Need For Success
- Considerable knowledge of standard practices, processes, procedures, safety precautions, materials, and tools of the painting trade and of paints, varnishes, stains, shellacs, enamels, solvents, and other painting materials.
- Working knowledge of, and ability to prepare, wood, metal, plaster, and concrete surfaces for painting or refinishing.
- Ability to mix, match, blend, harmonize and contrast paints.
- Ability and skill in applying water or oil-based paint at the standard rate of speed with a brush, roller, or spray equipment and ability to hang wallpaper and apply plaster and caulking.
- Ability to work from ladders or scaffolding at varying heights above ground level.
- Ability to obtain and hold a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to understand and execute oral or written instructions without close supervision.
