The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 182 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.

The Parks Recreation Coordinator II plans, develops, implements, and evaluates recreation programs at park facilities, or community centers for sports, art and culture, enrichment classes, school based afterschool programs, and/or specialty programs. Duties include supervising full and part-time employees and volunteers; communicating and cultivating connections and partnerships with individuals and groups to support department activities; planning and coordinating special events; maintaining financial and activity records for submittal; and administering department services including internet registration and reservations. The Parks Recreation Coordinator II must be able to work efficiently and effectively independently and on a team.

SALARY


$45,344.00 - $68,868.80 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $68,868.80 depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, leisure studies, or a degree related to an area of specialization.
  • One year of full-time, year-round professional or paraprofessional experience in recreation,
  • OR One year experience equivalent to the level of Recreation Coordinator I.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Computer skills including MS Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.), email, web-based registration (ACTIVE software system), and computer-generated flyer design.
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Experience leading community events.
  • Experience building a positive network within the community to promote programs.
  • Experience working with a diverse age group including teenagers.
  • Experience planning and managing recreation programs.
  • Experience working with community groups and developing partnerships.
  • Experience working with an automated registration/reservation system.
  • Experience working with the public and providing customer service.
  • Experience with cash handling.
  • Experience working in an afterschool program or childcare setting.
  • Experience working in a community center.
