Parkways Irrigation Technician I/II
Job description
The Highlands Ranch Metro District is accepting applications for a Parkways Irrigation Technician I/II in the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operations of parkways grounds, parks, open space and forestry. Technician I is expected to have the ability to develop basic working knowledge of irrigation and landscape maintenance, or exhibit appropriate development of essential duties and responsibilities within six months of job attainment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, community residents, and visitors.- Programs and operates computerized, central irrigation system.
- Operates and maintains all aspects of irrigation systems.
- Wears appropriate safety equipment at all times including: protective headwear, eye and ear protection, safety vest, safety shoes, gloves, respirators, and breathing apparatus.
- Follows all safety guidelines for confined space entry and all guidelines for trench safety. stablishes a daily work schedule for the repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Keeps a written record of daily activities and creates and manages work orders.
- Ability to understand water budgets and basic concepts of ET based watering.
- Basic understanding and reading of irrigation, utility and as-built plans.
- Maintains a consistent inventory of parts and supplies.
- Ability to operate electrical tracing devices.
- Assists in establishing watering schedules and keeps a written record of all changes to the irrigation schedule.
- Performs utility locates and responses as assigned.
- Performs litter control.
- Assist in the completion of a variety of projects in parks, parkways, and open space.
- Maintains and adjusts equipment and tools, including electric motors, water pumps, sprinklers, trencher, and irrigation systems.
- Assists in the training and/or supervision of seasonal employees.
- Assists with the production of assigned special events.
- Helps to monitor and communicate with landscape contractors.
- Active participant of snow removal program, assigned to rotating snow crew that will involve some night and weekend shifts.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong work ethic and demonstrated desire to learn.
- Some irrigation system or installation experience.
- Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
- Equivalent combination of skills and experience to meet requirements is acceptable.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This position is part of the HRMD on-call/weekend schedule. This position is required to be on-call and work weekends as scheduled by the Parks/Parkways Manager.
This position is also a part of the snow crew in the winter months and will have varying hours as team members rotate through a primary call schedule and will be required to work nights, and weekends.
