Responsibilities:
The Pharmacist I will work Per Diem, Various Shifts and Weekends and will prepare and dispense medication orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures and protocols.
Roles can include Inpatient and Outpatient areas of focus and may include any or all of the following activities:
  • Sterile compounding according to Hospital policy and USP 797 standards.
  • Hazardous Sterile compounding according to Hospital policy and USP 800 standards.
  • The Pharmacist has direct interaction with patients including but not limited to obtaining medication therapy histories, providing medication counseling and instruction.
  • The Pharmacist will review and verification of prescriber’s orders, ensuring appropriateness and accuracy.
  • The Pharmacist has direct interaction with practitioners, nursing, and ancillary staff regarding a broad range of topics that impact patient care and satisfaction.
  • The Pharmacist will do ordering, receiving, managing, and securing of medication and ancillary product inventories including controlled and non-controlled substances.
  • Accurate and complete dispensing of medications in accordance with all departmental policy, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
  • Distribution of medications within Bassett Healthcare Network healthcare clinics, operating rooms, and other clinical service areas.
  • Participation in departmental and/or multi-disciplinary work groups, committees, or teams.
Qualifications:
Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our hospitals and nursing homes. The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. All candidates who accept an offer from Bassett Healthcare Network will be required to show proof of vaccination as required by New York State.

Education/Qualifications:
  • 5 year degree in Pharmacy or PharmD required.
  • Must maintain all requirements including continuing education as mandated for by the New York State Board of Pharmacy required.
Experience:
  • Experience as a registered pharmacist preferred.
  • The fololowing are preferred:
    • Compounding and dispensing medications
    • Monitoring medication therapies
    • Providing medication advice and counseling
    • Verifying prescription and orders
    • Overseeing pharmacy technicians and staff
    • Conducting and overseeing inventories
    • Safeguarding controlled substances
    • Abiding by all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies
Licensure/Certificates:
  • Licensed and currently registered in the state of New York to practice pharmacy required.
Skills:
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Understanding and demonstration of positive customer relationships and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work and make decisions in high pressure situations with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, with patient safety always at the forefront.
  • Computer proficient, specific operating system dependent on work environment (EPIC, Willow, QS1).
  • Works cooperatively with local and Network pharmacy teams in support of quality service, collaboration, and safety.
  • Adaptable to change and forward thinking.
  • Mastery of work prioritization.
  • Mastery of patient confidentiality requirements and adept at managing sensitive situations with patients, caregivers, and co-workers.
Physical requirements:
  • May require long periods standing or sitting depending on work location. Often fast paced, with frequent interactions with patients and caregivers, teammates and leadership. Work requires concentration and ability to prioritize and focus on tasks at hand in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Fast paced, dymanic, can be noisy.
  • May require handling of hazardous medications.
Travel:
  • The job may require travel to other sites in the Network to provide support and staffing as leadership determines to be appropriate.
