As a Physical Security Specialist, you are responsible for supporting physical security and life-safety to safeguard the workforce, physical assets, proprietary information and the organization. You will assist with tracking and reporting trends, metrics and best practices to ensure optimization of our physical security function.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of physical security programs and systems, including access controls, surveillance, and alarm monitoring. You enjoy working in a team-centric and collaborative environment, with effective communication capabilities that allow you to interact with colleagues at all levels. You exercise sound judgment and informed decision-making, and the ability to remain calm and level-headed in heightened situations.


Qualifications


Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or direct and applicable work experience
  • Minimum one (1) or more years’ experience performing the same or similar physical security functions; including experience in Corporate Security or Asset Protection or direct relevant experience with Law Enforcement and/or Military agency
  • Demonstrated detailed oriented and self-starter
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and direction and in collaborative team environments
  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage varying priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate security risk and compliance related concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) or similar computer applications
  • Ability to assist in Technology needs after business hours, for example, equipment moves, 24x7 on call support

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Associate Security Professional (ASA), Physical Security Professional (PSP), First-Aid/CPR certified preferred
  • Knowledge of access control systems, intrusion detection systems, combination locks, etc.
  • Knowledge of supporting security disciplines, including physical security, document control, classified visit procedures, personnel security processing, security processes and procedures
  • Experience with building security, access management systems, executive protection and investigations
  • Aptitude with establishing risk management practices
  • Demonstrates critical and analytical thinking skills

Additional Information


a. Execute processes on behalf of Wellmark’s physical security programs (e.g., emergency preparedness, drills, team web page content, assists in development of process and work documentation, etc.).

b. Track and report physical security trends, metrics and best practices and help coordinate and conduct companywide drills (e.g. Shelter-In-Place and Fire Evacuation) and administer the floor captain program.

c. Serve as the Emergency Notification System subject matter resource. Operate and maintain procedures related to the Emergency Notification System. Provide training to all users and interface with the external vendor. Research and provide updates on system upgrades.

d. Maintain accurate records to achieve compliance with internal and external audits, WellSOX, and HIPAA.

e. Maintain and control the key control procedure for the headquarters & Cedar Rapids, update of policy, issuance, inventory, and fabrication of all keys.

f. Other duties as assigned.

Office-based: The nature of the job duties for this position will require you to be in the office 100% of the time. Your presence in-office is critical to effectively perform the responsibilities of the role. Occasional remote work may be permitted based on workload and/or other ad-hoc situations that support it, with manager approval.
