Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include two plywood and four lumber manufacturing plants, and fifteen specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fourteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States.

Purpose:

Assist in managing the overall operations for the Waynesboro, MS lumber mill in the most efficient and profitable manner, while maintaining good employee relations, meeting the company’s product needs, and operating within company policies and guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and execution of the plant operating plan in accordance with company and division business plan.
  • Monitor and manage key operating measures for the plant, including budgets, costs, productivity, inventories, safety, quality, etc.
  • Prepare and monitor quarterly, monthly, and weekly budgets and forecasts as required.
  • Work with direct reports and division staff to establish goals for plant performance in all areas, and help staff achieve goals.
  • Assist managing ongoing plant operations through mill supervisory and management staff.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to supervisors and develop promising employees for future opportunities. Drive cooperation among plant employees.
  • Resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed.
  • Consistently reinforce a commitment to customer-focus toward both internal and external customers.
  • Assist with overseeing maintenance and plant improvements. Manage capital expenditures.
  • Establish consistent processes, standards, and expectations for the plant to ensure ongoing performance within company, regulatory, and legal requirements.
  • Provide leadership for the plant and set an example of proper professional conduct for others.

Required education/experience:

  • Bachelor’s level education in forestry, business, marketing or a related area highly preferred but not required.
  • Five plus years of lumber and/or plywood plant experience including direct supervisory experience (3-5 years), experience managing supervisory or lead employees (3-5 years) in a multiple plant operating areas.
