This position is under the Cadet Program and will require the employee to complete the Police Officer Training Reimbursement Agreement. Under the direct supervision of the Criminal Investigations Lieutenant, participate in independent study, formal classroom instruction to become proficient in the basic skills necessary to become a licensed Texas Peace Officer. Once the academy is completed, Police Officer Cadets will fall under the police officer job description.

• Requires comprehensive study of State laws, police procedures and all aspects of the law enforcement function, in preparation for becoming a certified peace officer.
• Continued daily attendance at the law enforcement training academy.
• Successful completion of written tests, assessments, practical problems, firearms training, defensive tactics, and physical fitness-related activated as required by the police academy.
• Read and understand law books, legal decisions; city laws and ordinances; map information; memorandums and instructions; department policies and procedures, schedules, case reports, driver's licenses, and general correspondence.
• Keep abreast of changing statutes, laws, and ordinances in order to effectively perform duties.
• When not assigned to academy duties, work with assigned division inside the police department.
• Complies with established rules and regulations governing the police academy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Meet minimum TCOLE hiring standards and licensure requirements
• Must turn 21 years of age before police academy graduation
• Citizen of the United States
• Criminal background check based on TCOLE Requirements
  • No conviction, guilty plea, court-ordered community service/probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or a felony.
  • During last ten (10) years, has not been convicted, plead guilty, been on community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, other state, or while serving in the military.
  • No convictions of family violence
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License
• Pass Psychological Examination
• Pass Controlled Substance Screening
• Applicants with Military Service must have an Honorable Discharge.
• Applicants will be required to pass a firearms qualification with a score of 70%
• Must have 30 college credit hours OR 2 years prior military service OR 2 years of full-time basic jailer experience OR 2 years of full-time employment as a non-sworn member of the City of Jersey Village

• 1.5 Mile Run- 17 Minutes & 30 Seconds

• Sit Up’s- 25 in one minute (hands clasp to side of head by ears)
• 150 lbs. Dummy Drag- 30 feet in 11 seconds
• 300 Meter Run- 75 Seconds.
