At CVS, we're building a Web Platform to enable teams across CVS Digital to quickly and easily deliver experiences into the hands of our customers, all at the scale of a Fortune 4 company! The Web Platform will be leveraged by hundreds of engineers across Retail, Pharmacy, Health Solutions, and Aetna building sites used by millions of customers.
The Principal Engineer II - Web Platforms, will be responsible for building shared internal libraries, tools, and processes that enable teams across CVS Digital to self-service build, test, preview, deploy and operate systems with reduced lead time and stack complexity.
This is a new team at CVS and we need a strong technical leader who can work with a high level of freedom and autonomy, advocate for best practices, and can collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, architects and leadership to build a web platform that engineers want to use. This is a unique opportunity to help build a team from the ground up.

The typical pay range for this role is:
Minimum: 140,000
Maximum: 280,000
Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will take into account a wide range of factors, including location.

The Details:
- Having proficiency in modern front-end development using frameworks and libraries such as React, Next.js, GraphQL, Redux and React Query
- Having experience using these libraries and frameworks to build an application running in production at scale
- Possessing advanced JavaScript and TypeScript skills
- Being knowledgeable about how a library like React works under the hood
- Developing scalable engineering solutions for cross-team concerns like UI state management, data fetching, build tooling, performance, client observability, analytics, CI/CD and other architectural challenges
- Experience in implementing SSR.
- Identifying where an application could fail, and you know how to build in kill switches and disaster recovery mechanisms to limit outages on the front-end.
- Understanding the trade-offs between a multi-site and monolithic architecture
- Experience with A/B Testing, personalization, and analytics.
- Advocating for best practices for building performant, scalable, and reliable web applications
- Contributing to front-end architecture that enables product engineering teams to more quickly build and deploy their applications
- Collaborating with other teams across CVS Digital to ensure we're building a web platform with our customer's needs in mind
- Keeping an eye out for new and emerging technologies that improve performance, delivery, and developer experience
- Participating in peer code reviews, providing feedback to your fellow engineers to make them better and to improve the quality of the software we ship
- Automating developer pain away by developing CLIs, GitHub bots, and integrations
- Approaching all engineering work with a performance lens and make it easy for teams to identify performance bottlenecks
- Coaching and mentoring mid to early career software engineers

- 5+ years of experience with JavaScript.
- 3+ years of experience with TypeScript.
- 3+ years of experience with front-end web frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.
