SHIFT:

12-hour rotating day/night shifts (06:45 AM to 07:00 PM and 06:45PM to 07:00AM) Overtime as required

Week 1: Work: Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat/Sun and Off: Wed/Thurs
Week 2: Work Wed/Thurs and Off Mon/Tues/Friday/Sat/Sun
Shift assigned will depend on available openings therefore could be straight days or straight nights.

Description:

  • White Stone - Production Support/Material Handler

OVERVIEW:

  • Temporary entry level Contractor position in the production and warehouse operations of shipping and storage of drummed surfactant chemicals.
  • This position assists higher-level material handlers in different phases of warehouse work to acquire additional skills and performs less complex duties on their own.
  • Common examples of daily job tasks are the following: staging and shipping of product in Logistics warehouse, operating a fork truck to transfer material, and performing general housekeeping items.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A High School education or equivalent is the minimum requirement but prefer at least an Associate's degree from a recognized technical/community college.
  • The willingness and ability to work outside in various weather conditions and perform the physical requirements of the job such as; bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • The individual will be very safety conscious when working with and around chemicals, show initiative, have excellent attention to detail, be results oriented and customer focused, possess good communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a team environment.
  • The individual must also be able to prioritize tasks and be self-motivated.

INITIATIVE/INGENUITY:

  • Works under constant supervision until a job task is mastered and proven by the competency-based training program.
  • Judgment is exercised in the initial planning of own work.
  • The warehouse contractor level trained material handler initiates follow-up activities to assure smooth operation of work areas.
  • May determine acceptability of product within pre-established standards and takes steps to correct abnormalities.

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

  • Job requires a moderate degree of manual dexterity to operate valves, pumps, scales, switches, etc.
  • Operates forklift truck and handles transporting of drums with forklift.
  • These require sufficient manual skills. 70% of the job requires standing, walking, operating forklift or yard tractor, 30% of the job requires manual material handling, recording data, etc.

MENTAL & VISUAL DEMANDS:

  • Type of work involves operations of various types of equipment located on many levels, which requires a high degree of concentration during various phases of the operation.
  • Contractor Operating procedures to perform various task are detailed and must be carefully followed to produce on spec material.

MATERIALS OR PRODUCT:

  • The products produced by this plant are of varied specifications.
  • Care is required to prevent contamination when using different transfer lines.
  • When required on shifts, accuracy in determining acceptability of product orders drummed is critical. Error could lead to time loss, increased production costs, loss of material or product and customer dissatisfaction.
  • Many products handled are not re-workable or require significant time and expense to salvage.

SAFETY:

  • Improper operation or failure to observe safety precautions could result in a safety incident.
  • Good housekeeping practices must be observed.
  • Reactors are in the main production area. The safety of others depends on actions of employees.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the supervision of Logistics Supervisor, and the Team Leader, the Contractor Material Handler helps perform complex operations in reacting, blending, mixing required elements in the manufacturing processes at White Stone.
  • Warehouse material handlers unload box trailers and trucks, handle packages, stock shelves/storerooms, move drums and totes.
  • The warehouse material handler may be required to operate forklifts, yard tractor, fill tanks and containers, and operate plant equipment.
  • Helps Logistics operation in Warehouse store and stage drums for orders.
  • Maintenance activities, such as performing equipment inspections and operational checklists require skill and dexterity.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift truck, yard tractor and railcar mover.
  • Notifies supervisor or team leader of any unusual situation that may require attention.
  • Keeps assigned equipment and work area clean and orderly. Completes a daily housekeeping area.
  • Practices safety at all times. Follows BASF's safety rules and promotes their observance in the performance of job duties.
  • Performs other work as required and/or assigned.
