Africa Program

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a renowned international affairs institution with headquarters in Washington and offices in Beirut, Berlin, Brussels, and New Delhi, seeks a Program Assistant to provide programmatic and administrative support for its Washington-based Africa Program.

The Program Assistant will provide programmatic, administrative and events support related to the program such as assisting in organizing meetings, roundtables and conferences; maintaining and updating list of contacts; coordinating with other programs and organizations; tracking expenses and assisting in financial reporting; overseeing projects and ensuring that deliverables and deadlines are met. The candidate will also be responsible for providing day-to-day support of the program's substantive work and research on the economic, political and transnational issues shaping Africa's future. This role is ideally suited to a candidate with an interest in gaining project management, programmatic operations, research, and policy.

Successful applicants will have an undergraduate degree in international relations, economics, or any similar related field. Excellent skills in the Microsoft Office suite are essential. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, and diligence and creativity are required. Internship or some work experience related to supporting academic research is preferred. Applicants should be familiar with current and enduring issues in economic development in Africa, U.S. foreign policy and global economic governance, a proven interest in drivers of change in the global landscape. Excellent command of written and spoken English; working knowledge of French is a plus. Previous study or work experience in an African country is a plus.
