The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a renowned international affairs institution with headquarters in Washington and offices in Beirut, Berlin, Brussels, and New Delhi, seeks a Program Manager for its Washington-based Africa Program. Carnegie's Africa Program focuses on the economic, political, and transnational issues shaping the African continent.
The Program Manager will work directly with the Director of the Africa Program to oversee the administrative, development, and financial functions of the program, while collaborating closely with colleagues across the Carnegie Endowment's research programs and regional centers to streamline the program's operations. Responsibilities of the Program Manager for the Africa Program will include strategic planning; program management; project management; coordinating across other programs and departments; drafting and reviewing communications to funders and supporters; and events planning.
The position requires an undergraduate degree in public policy, economics, or a similar related discipline and 5 years of related work experience in program administration or management. A master's degree is preferred but not required. The selected candidate will have a demonstrated track record of excellent program management including project development, budget management, proposal development, and grant writing and reporting. Working knowledge of French is desirable.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest and understanding of the African continent as well as its engagement with the rest of the world. A proven track record of program management and expertise in Africa is required, writing skills along with strong networks among policymakers in Washington D.C. The individual should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and should bring a solid track record of management skills - communication, organization, reliability, and attention to detail - to the role.
