The Leslie and William McMorrow Neighborhood Academic Initiative (NAI) at USC supports more than 1,000 children in college access programs and early literacy programs each year. The USC McMorrow Neighborhood Academic Initiative (NAI), the university’s signature college prep program enrolls close to 1,000 students annually. USC McMorrow NAI is an academically rigorous and comprehensive, seven-year pre-college program designed to prepare students from South and East Los Angeles for admission to a college or university. Under the program guidelines, students must commit to a seven-year plan of attending Saturday Academy classes along with weekday morning classes at USC, after-school tutoring and parent workshops. Parents are also required to attend a biweekly Family Development Institute program to create a 360-degree, hands-on approach to reinforce student academic goals and study habits and maximize a healthy home environment. Students who remain in the program in good standing from sixth grade until their high school graduation are eligible for a fully funded financial aid package- minus loans, to USC, provided they meet admission requirements. The USC McMorrow NAI program also provides support to all NAI Scholars through their first college degree. Since its first graduating class in 1997, nearly 1,040 students have completed the program with 83 percent enrollment as freshman at four-year universities, and 42 percent enrollment at USC.
The McMorrow Neighborhood Academic Initiative is seeking an experienced professional to assume the role of Program Specialist for our HSC NAI program location.
The Program Specialist will coordinate the Saturday Academy program at the HSC Campus, which includes preparing lessons, tracking grades, parent follow-up, etc. In this role, the Program Specialist trains Saturday Academy staff in the NAI model and incorporates research-based strategies in those trainings and subsequent interactions. Additional Coordinating of 6th grade recruitment and leading the administration and management of all data collections, surveys and exams. The Program Specialist maintains communication with the team of 8 M-F LAUSD teachers in partnership with our program, to ensure a seamless integration of M-F curriculum into our Saturday model. Tracking of student performance, as well as managing various pertinent program data. Implementation of best practices in Math, Science and Language Arts instruction, grades 6-12. Management of Math, Science and Language Arts Curriculum component including Saturday Academy and afterschool tutoring. Collection, analysis and dissemination of enrollment and outcome data. Weekly supervision of almost 500 scholars, Monday-Friday, Saturday Academy dates and summer sessions. Support efforts to enhance the public relations goals of the NAI and USC. Management and oversight of the academic components of NAI to ensure effective operations. Support of new partnerships that can bring new resources and offerings to undergird the growth strategy of the program. Aligning programing and events at HSC with the UPC campus whenever possible.
This position manages various strands of the NAI program at the Health Science Campus, duties include:
Coordination of the Saturday Academy program at the HSC Campus, which includes preparing lessons, tracking grades, parent follow-up, etc.
Training Saturday Academy staff in the NAI model and incorporates research-based strategies in those trainings and subsequent interactions.
Coordination of 6th grade student recruitment
Leading the administration and management of all data collections, surveys and exams.
Maintains communication with the team of 8 weekday LAUSD teachers in partnership with our program, ensure a seamless integration of M-F curriculum into our Saturday model.

Able to demonstrate exceptional organizational and communication skills as well as analytic capacity and strong attention to detail.
Bachelor’s degree and minimum 3 years of experience.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook.
Bilingual/Spanish proficient
This position requires working on both campuses UPC & HSC, primary reporting campus will be HSC.
Must be able to work weekends.
Preferred Education: master’s degree, OR 3 years of experience directly related in program specialization.

The hourly rate range for this position is $29.04 - $35.00.
