Position Summary:

As a member of a progressive student-athlete support team, the Director for Academic Enrichment will manage a caseload of at-risk, incoming, and continuing student-athletes with learning concerns. The Director for Academic Enrichment will develop and implement diagnostic testing, instructional assistance, technology, and academic support plans for under-prepared and learning challenged student-athletes as well as developing and implementing programmatic and training initiatives for the tutorial program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and evaluate students’ academic and personality needs to determine and to provide support with study skills, note taking, organizational skills, time management skills, test-taking strategies, and in the areas of literacy skill development.
  • Serves as the liaison with the Disability Resource Center to develop and administer a comprehensive program to assess student-athletes for learning difficulties and disabilities and coordinate educational assistance and accommodations.
  • Coordinates with Senior Associate AD for Health, Wellness and Performance for diagnostic and psychological support services.
  • Asses all diagnostic results, and coordinate with the Disability Resource Center to create individualized holistic learning plans.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing individualized learning plans, academic performance improvement plans and strategy for at-risk student-athletes for the purpose of providing support, developing academic skills, and engaging ongoing academic assessment.
  • Works in conjunction with Student-Athlete Athletic Academic Advisors to monitor progress towards degree and NCAA eligibility.
  • Develops and provides a variety of teaching activities, including diagnostic needs assessments, skills development, decision making, study habits and time management plans.
  • Teach compensatory techniques to help students understand their learning strengths and weaknesses to foster academic success.
  • Provide training and skill development seminars for students and staff as requested.
  • Coordinates assistive technology for all student-athletes and provide guidance on department technology needs.
  • Develop and maintain an academic resource library for all student-athletes, focusing specifically on study skills and test-taking strategies.
  • Supervises all tutoring efforts and provides training to tutors and mentors.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Demonstrated work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience. Preferred experience in higher education, support services, student-athlete support services, or closely related field.
  • Preferred knowledge of standard computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite and specific software necessary for academic advising and tutoring
  • Possess the ability to learn and utilize the specific athletics software such as ARMS and Teamworks.
  • Prior experience working with at-risk or students with learning disabilities is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate cooperatively with staff, student-athletes, coaches, and administration.
