The Ruhlin Company is seeking to hire Project Engineers for its Civil Division. Openings are available in in the Cleveland and Columbus areas.

Job Title: Project Engineer

FLSA status: Exempt admin

Department: Civil

Reports to: PM, Superintendent

Position Summary: Assist the Superintendent in managing all construction processes. Manage all financial administration and cost reporting activities.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Accurate cost reports and margin analysis are produced on-time
  • Prompt payment applications to owners
  • Timely and complete project documentation

Position Responsibilities:

Contractual

  • Maintains submittal logs and timely receipt and review of submittals and shop drawings
  • Recognizes change conditions with respect to the contract and notifies appropriate parties
  • Assists Superintendent with daily job reports and schedule monitoring
  • Creates correspondence to owners, contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, etc.
  • Maintains RFI logs and timely response to job questions
  • Develops, implements and administers project engineering procedures and other work documents; tracks and logs documentation
  • Takes weekly jobsite photographs
  • Assists in preparing project status reports and participates in project status meetings; assists in development of meeting minutes
  • Assists in project close-out activities
  • Ensures all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings and specifications; coordinates inspections and testing

Engineering

  • Assists with pre-construction activities as needed: construction planning and design; interpretation of design and drawings; application of construction methods; bid packages
  • Interprets designs and drawings; prepares takeoffs; researches and recommends resolutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts and errors
  • Prepares drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.
  • Verifies work-in-place quantities for invoicing/pay quantities; verifies accurate payment of subcontractors and material suppliers
  • Assists with constructability reviews and value engineering functions
  • Assists in the definition of subcontract bid packages, coordinating scopes of work, and in preparing the packages
  • Maintains as-built drawings; posts RFI, bulletin and ASI as appropriate

Accounting

  • Assembles construction financial data; monitors costs; tracks costs for force accounts
  • Maintains job costing system and updates systems to reflect forecasts; creates margin reporting

Administrative

  • Ensures craft time cards are completed accurately, reflecting hours worked and tasks worked on; assigns cost codes to all purchases, time cards, contracts, equipment time and any other item involving cost
  • Ensures correct setup and maintenance of filing system
  • Completes appropriate paperwork for new field hires

General

  • Maintains all safety records
  • Communicates and reinforces the Company vision, values and goals
  • Performs additional assignments per supervisor s direction

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 4 year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and related experience
  • Ability to read and interpret plans
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Basic understanding of cost analysis
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional Registration is encouraged
