Job Title: Public Affairs Specialist

Location: Grand Junction, CO

Status: Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: $50,000.00 - $84,000.00/yr. (The anticipated starting salary pay range of $50,000.00 - $84,000.00/yr. is based on minimum requirements for this position. Minimum requirements are a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and at least 5 years of relevant experience. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant's education, training, and experience.)

RSI Entech (LLC) is recruiting for a Public Affairs Specialist to provide ongoing assistance in communications and community outreach activities that support the US Department of Energy's Office of Legacy Management (DOE LM) mission, cultivate relationships within stakeholder communities, create content that informs different audiences about LM activities, and report on outcomes.

This position is required to travel at least 25% of the time.

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:
  • Perform and coordinate public affairs support for LM sites with contractor operations staff and federal clients.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement programs and activities that inform and engage the public, industry, and all levels of government about DOE's activities.
  • Create community involvement plans, including identification of and targeted outreach to priority audiences, key issues, and recommended messages and communications delivery methods.
  • Write and prepare presentations, talking points, backgrounders, fact sheets, press releases, news stories, technical reports, outreach publications, brochures, digital content, and other printed and electronic materials intended for distribution to external audiences.
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate meetings and events that inform stakeholders about LM's work, mission, and priorities.
  • Plan, coordinate logistics, and produce support for public meetings, tours, open houses, and special events.
  • Gather stakeholder input via face-to-face conversations, event surveys, and email input to compile and analyze results.
  • Participate in local community events (e.g., cultural activities, STEM gatherings, etc.)

  • Ability to conduct public affairs and community outreach activities.

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

  • Valid unencumbered driver's license
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Required Education and Years of Experience:
Bachelor's degree with a major in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience.

Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:

  • Previous client-relations experience
  • Skilled implementer with strong writing and editing skills highly preferred
  • Previous media relations experience
  • Experience communicating technical and/or scientific information to non-technical and or non-scientific audiences
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Department of Energy
  • Familiarity working as a contractor for the U.S. government
  • Understanding of uranium-related issues
  • Previous photography and videography experience
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
The employee exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
