SUMMARY
Quality Engineer must have general knowledge of metals manufacturing and machining processes in an ISO certified environment. Will support AS9100/ISO9001 processes and procedures, conduct quality audits, provide support to internal and external suppliers including the shop floor. Correct problems using root cause methodologies. Work with cross functional teams to disposition defective material and products. Work with Microsoft office for spreadsheet & data base files. Responsible for scrap reduction and problem resolution with customer concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, documents, and reports.
- Serve as a Quality Assurance resource for problem identification and resolution.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process and product related concerns. Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality assurance and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.
- Serve as the Quality Assurance representative to the Materials Review Board (MRB).
- Assist in maintaining the inspection tool calibration process
- Other duties as assigned
- Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility.
- Issues a schedule of audits matched up with internal auditors. Holds regular management briefings to discuss corrective actions and other major quality issues such as cost of scrap and causes of scrap.
- Assist Quality manager in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system.
- Responsible for continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system (e.g., 5S, Kaizen lean methods, etc.).
- Develop and conduct training to as required build quality awareness.
- Interface with Engineering and Operations to ensure that new products transferred to Production to Production are manufactured in accordance with approved prints.
- Conduct audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audits finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions.
- Handles numerous audits by customers, particularly those involved in aircraft and government parts. Keeps meticulous records and prepares required documentation to follow standards such as AS-9100 in conjunction with other quality, manufacturing, and administrative personnel.
- Analyze product failures and initiate the corrective and preventive actions required to respond to customer complaints.
- Monitor supplier performance and conduct supplier audits when required.
- Provide exceptional product and customer service to all internal and external customers.
- Consistently perform all responsibilities, essential functions and tasks to Company expectations, quality standards and profitability goals.

- Apply and recommend Lean practices
- Safeguards trade secrets and proprietary information in accordance with current Company policy.
- Coordinates management review for quality systems in accordance with industry requirements.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of statistical methods such as CpK, PpK, ANOVA, etc.
- Must understand process control and advanced quality planning tools and techniques to include FMEA control plans, process mapping, gage R&R, etc.
- May perform quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records.
- Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures.
- Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
- Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management.
- Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of quality assurance activities.
- Participate in Material Review Board activities.
- Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.
- Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
- Conducts training as directed, such as internal preparation for major certification meetings and professional training classes.
- Walks around with auditors and demonstrates together with various others that compliance exists.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Critical Competencies
- General knowledge of metals machining and manufacturing process.
- Knowledge of AS/ISO/IATF standards and auditing practices
- Understanding and ability to accurately use mechanical inspection tools and geometric tolerancing
- Understanding of root cause problem solving
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong computer skills including QA applications, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Analytical problem solver uses technical engineering and quantitative methods to understand problems, design experimental programs, collect and analyze data, and derive practical recommendations and solutions.
- Strong understanding of statistical methods and tools for problem solving
- Strong computer skills for communication and analysis

Additional experience a plus
- Ability to review customers purchase orders, contracts and change requests and ensure that the necessary criteria and provisions are included in quality and process plans.
- Ability to support Design Engineering efforts by participating in design and development projects representing Quality Assurance and the customer.
- PPAP and first article documentation experience
- APQP/PPAP/FAI
- Non-destructive testing

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field with a minimum of 1 year of experience or
- Associates degree in engineering or related field with 3 years of experience
- Certified through ASQ preferred but is not necessary,
- Green Belt or related problem-solving experience a plus
- Some travel may be required
