POSITION TITLE: Registered Dietician and Nutritionist
CLASSIFICATION: Prevention, regular, full-time, non-exempt
SUPERVISOR: Clinic Director
JOB SUMMARY
Improve the overall health of the Greater Spokane community and expand the availability of health care by providing counseling to patients on good nutrition habits, diabetes education, disease prevention and health promotions for their particular situation as follows:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with providers to identify and connect with patients needing nutrition counseling.
- Establishes treatment plans and communicates with patients regarding program utilization and meeting patient goals.
- Meets directly with patients to identify educational needs; provides individual instruction, group education, and clinics; utilizes Motivational Interviewing, cultural activities, and informational handouts/booklets, or refers to community resources as needed.
- Regularly maintains nutritionist visits documentation in the Diabetes Registry and RPMS for diabetic and medical patients.
- As a member of the Patient-Centered Care Team, identifies ways to improve the care of patients, and makes recommendations to the Medical and Behavioral Health teams.
- Participates in various patient program committees, outreach events, and Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) initiatives.
- Performs research and recommends ways to expand and improve nutrition and HPDP programs through patient satisfaction surveys, focus groups, and collaborations with other agencies and peers.
- Participates in quality improvement of the program in conjunction with other services NATIVE offers.
- Maintain patient records containing pertinent, accurate, and current information in compliance with Privacy Act, HIPAA, and RCW/WAC policy, procedures, and rules.
- Uses “Sacred Hospitality” in serving patients and peers.
- Possesses critical working knowledge of current Evidence-Based Practices and supports recovery-based lifestyles and patient outcomes.
- Can successfully pass a criminal background check, OIG check, and pre-employment UA/BAs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
- Basic computer skills are required, including Electronic Health records.
- Grant writing and management, evaluation, and reporting.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health Education, or related field required.
- Must have Registered Dietician Registration and be eligible for Washington State certification.
- A Certified Diabetes Educator credential is required.
- Prior chronic disease and/or diabetes nutrition counseling.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Dietitian must be able to move around the facility between1/3rd and 2/3rd of the day as well as sit at a workstation or in patient rooms.
- Lifting up to 10 lbs occurs half the time, while up to and above 25 lbs occurs occasionally.
