Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Qualifications:
- Ability to read and write.
- Must be able stand for long periods of time.
- Dental knowledge is a plus but not required.
- Experience in other areas of dentistry, artistry, production, construction, food industry, or any other position requiring hand-eye coordination and attention to detail is a plus (such as nail technician, jeweler, mechanic, hairdresser, camera/watch repair, etc.)
- A positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills.
Compensation: Hourly
Shift/Hours: Full-time Sunday-Thursday 5pm-1:30/2am
Description: The fixed model room technician is required to read, comprehend, and follow the prescription provided by the dentist and instructions contained in team policies. The instructions on the prescription (Rx) are used in conjunction with the impression of the patient's mouth to replicate life-like restorations utilizing dental alloys, zirconia, lithium disilicate, and/or other approved materials. After training (as needed), technician demonstrates knowledge of basic tooth anatomy, terminology, and thorough understanding of dental impression materials and dental stones. Technician must be able to work independently, with teams, and with supervision. An understanding of basic occlusal schemes (how a patient bites) is necessary to evaluate and correct discrepancies when attaching poured casts on articulators. An articulator is a mechanical hinged device used in dentistry to which plaster/stone casts of the maxillary (upper jaw) and mandibular (lower jaw) are attached, reproducing some or all the movements of the upper and lower jaw. Casts are the positive reproduction of a patient's teeth and surrounding tissues obtained from a dental impression.
The technician works directly with dental impression materials, waxes, and stones specially formulated for this industry. The technician will utilize proper grinding tools (handpiece, burs, etc.) along with various dental equipment to achieve properly constructed casts and mountings. Technician will ensure all casts are at the proper thickness and dimensions to meet minimum clinical guidelines for material functionality, hygiene/cleanliness, ease of fabrication, patient comfort, and doctor's guidelines and preferences.

Skill Levels for Technicians
Skill Level 1:
- Ability to pour and mount casts according to instructions and training
- Can identify and know powder to liquid ratios for each type of dental stone with aid.
- Ability to identify flaws in impressions and bite registrations and get assistance for next steps
Skill Level 2:
- Proficient in skill level 1
- Ability to troubleshoot inaccurate impressions and make corrections to bites/occlusal schemes and can correct a "bad bite" by use of hand articulation
- Can trim bite registrations to accurate dimensions with no supervision.
Skill Level 3:
- Ability to do all the above
- Train and supervise others to pour, construct and articulate casts with minimal errors.
- Can understand and maximize function of models (i.e., lateral excursions, wear facets, cuspid rise/group function, protrusive and centric occlusion)
