Position: Assistant Automation Specialist
Responsibilities:
The department of Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology is looking for a highly-motivated, emerging Automation Specialist to fill a contract position in our Research organization. This opening will provide the opportunity to collaborate closely with other members of the Automation Technology team to develop, optimize, implement, and maintain automated systems to promote the discovery of therapeutic molecules. The candidate will collaborate with department members to establish and automate sample preparation and assay workflows. She/he/they will help develop and test protocols on integrated systems as well as on stand-alone liquid handlers. She/he/they will work with automation users to troubleshoot problems and provide technical expertise. The candidate may generate documentation such as operation guides and web page content, present work at meetings, and provide training to promote effective use of equipment. She/he/they will work with vendors to ensure that systems are in optimal working condition. The successful candidate will play a fundamental role in providing the department with streamlined, state-of-the-art automation capabilities.
The successful candidate will have many of the following qualifications:
- B.S./B.A. degree in biology, chemistry, bioengineering, or related field
- 1-3 years of relevant industrial experience, ideally in a drug discovery or sample management setting
- Experience working with laboratory instrumentation (e.g. liquid handlers, plate readers, washers, etc.)
- Familiarity with biochemical or cell-based assays and/or compound management
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Keen interest in building skills in area of lab automation
- Logical approach coupled with careful attention to detail
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Excellent team player with firm commitment to goals and timelines
