Research Associate I or II - Microbiology and Immunology (FT)
Job description
This position will be in support of to support Dr. Angela Melton-Celsa's laboratory at Uniformed Services University in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology located in Bethesda, Maryland.
HJF is seeking a Research Associate I or II to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Performs limited analysis and interpretation of results. The applicant should have experience in sterile technique, bacterial culture, and molecular biology. Previous experience in growing Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, and/or Helicobacter preferred. Previous experience in invertebrate and/or rodent models of infection is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, conducts, and completes investigations under supervision.
- Assists with the writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
- Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry.
- Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research.
- Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
All of the responsibilities of Research Associate I in addition to:
- Trains junior laboratory staff in laboratory techniques and processes, as needed.
- Conducts research in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff.
- Performs complex laboratory tests, determinations, and analyses involving multiple procedures and a variety of technical approaches.
- Analyzes and prepares reagent and/or assay product documentation. Organizes and procures needed reagents, performs experiments, analyzes data, and documents results.
- Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.
- Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
- Good communication and analytical skills.
Qualifications:
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
- Master’s Degree.
- Level I: Minimum of 0-2 years of experience required.
- Level II: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience required.
- Experience in sterile technique, bacterial culture, and molecular biology.
- Previous experience in growing Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, and/or Helicobacter preferred.
- Previous experience in invertebrate and/or rodent models of infection preferred.
