Research Strategist
The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is currently seeking a dynamic and motivated professional to fill the position of Research Strategist in its Department of Research. The Department of Research is responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative research to measure audiences for MBN TV, radio, and digital and to obtain audience feedback on content and quality. The primary responsibly of the Research Strategist will be to assist in all aspects of research and reporting on MBN’s quality, effectiveness, and impact.
SPECIFIC DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities noted below are considered the essential functions of the job.
- Assesses the size and characteristics of current and potential TV, radio, and digital audiences using nationally representative face to face and phone surveys. Tasks include questionnaire design, reviewing sampling plans, fieldwork oversight, contractor management, and data analysis.
- Tracks user reactions to specific MBN news and programs through in-depth interviews, user panels, focus groups, and other qualitative methods. Specific tasks include designing questionnaires and screeners, fieldwork oversight, contractor management, and analysis of findings.
- Provides MBN leadership team with customized analysis of quantitative and qualitative data including in frequent presentations, memos and reports.
- Works in close collaboration with the Director of Research to assess the effects of different topics, formats, and delivery methods on the use and impact of MBN’s content.
- Identifies the approaches that have the strongest effects on reaching audiences and/or engaging audiences, including on social media and websites.
- Occasionally helps track digital audience traffic and behavior and provides data-driven feedback to MBN regarding content performance on MBN’s websites and social media.
OTHER DUTIES:
- The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in research methods, international relations, communications, political science, or related fields. Experience using statistical software such SPSS a must.
- Demonstrated experience as a researcher able to draw out actionable insights from complex survey data and qualitative research. Solid written English skills.
- Understanding of history and politics of the MENA. Prefer candidates with the ability to understand written and spoken Arabic, although this is not essential.
- Experience with or willing to learn to use various analytics tools for websites and apps, such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, and Social Bakers.
