Resident Attendant - FT (Interfaith Shelter)
Job description
This is a paraprofessional position which provides adult supervision to program residents at Interfaith Shelter. All duties must be performed effectively and efficiently to ensure smooth operation of the facility and programs offered. Attendants will ensure that all clients and families are treated with respect and dignity, in accordance with Catholic Charities standards of treatment and ethics. Duties may vary slightly depending upon the shift and program assignment. Ideal candidate must be responsible, flexible and dependable. Specifically seeking for overnight weekends, daytime weekends, section shift and evenings Monday through Friday.
PRIMARYRESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide daily assistance to assigned clients maintaining a safe and caring therapeutic environment. Provide meals, maintain12-step schedule, transport clients as needed, ensure completion of chores, make supplies available to meet physical needs, monitor and manage client behavior and health/medication needs according to Program standards with minimum to no errors, oversee visits, ensure safety and security of the client at all times. Provide life skills classes when assigned.
2. Supervise and assist in general upkeep of the facility and vehicles. Monitor and ensure adequate supply of food, cleaning and office supplies, and other products as needed. Coordinate and schedule vehicle maintenance services.
3. Perform administrative and office duties effectively and efficiently. Answer the telephone, record and distribute messages, copy documents as needed, accomplish other duties as assigned. Communicate with on-call when necessary. Communicate availability and be reliable to assure 24 hour coverage. If part time, assist in covering major holidays, sick, vacation, and vacancies when needed.
JOB SCOPE
Budget Responsibility: Properly document petty cash use. Purchase reasonably priced items needed by the program with the approval of the Program Director. Coordinate copays and seek reimbursement from clients. Properly deposit client money and not break the chain of custody.

- A good knowledge of mental health and life skills to teach hour long seminars
- The ability to coach, lead, and teach clients to live a better life
- Excellent communication skills
- A responsible and flexible attitude towards clients and the job
- Willingness to self-educate and invest in building knowledge of various counseling techniques, approaches, and best practices
- Ability to de-escalate crisis and resolve conflict
- Ability to make quick sound judgments and decisions
Physical and Environmental Demands: Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of the demands that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position. - Use of hands, wrists, and fingers and lifting or moving up to 25 pounds will be required
- Movements such as stooping, crouching, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing will be required
- The majority of the work day will include high levels of walking, climbing steps, pacing, standing, and driving. There will be sitting occasionally.
- Sudden and loud noises can be heard throughout the day.
- Fast pace environment, with high levels of distractions and multitasking
- Must have an eye for detail, ability to stay on track, and follow a typed or written schedule and checklist
Working Conditions
Resident Attendants work a variety of shifts which makes cross-training essential. The program operates a 24 hour schedule making a need for all shifts to be covered and filled around the clock. All overnight shifts are “awake” positions. No shift can leave until relief has come. Part Time Resident Attendants are expected to help cover major holidays, sick and vacation leave, and vacant hours. The facility is a residential building providing a personal and home-like setting. All staff must adhere to seasonal dress code.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Certifications, Licenses, and Other Requirements:
Valid PA State License with a clean driving record
State Police, Child Line Clearances and FBI clearances
Completion of Mandating Reporter Training
Adequate Automobile Insurance According to Policy
Documentation by licensed physician of fitness to work
CPR/First Aid Certification (Can be obtained while employed)
Willingness to complete mandatory core state trainings as required by the State in Confidentiality, HIV/AIDS and TB/STD's, Ethics
Experience:
Prefer prior experience working with chemical dependency treatment programs and knowledge of women’s issues.
