The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Clinical Supervisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal and state substance use regulations and best practice by providing and maintaining supervision of staff that provide addiction services. The SUD Clinical supervisor will support clinical services by training, supervising, and developing staff that provide SUD clinical care.

The SUD Clinical supervisor is responsible for providing a range of clinical duties for residential programs. The primary areas of responsibility include the following areas:

Providing expertise in clinical interventions that reflects methods of best practice related to the professional practice.  Providing expertise in the development and implementation of trauma informed care practices to milieu and behavior management.

Providing training and supervision to clinical staff and students.

Providing professional services with substance use patients as needed.


Duties related to the SUD clinical supervisor role include ensuring fidelity to our treatment protocols and identifying opportunities for protocol improvement, providing training, and directly intervening with crisis/behavioral management, staff clinical supervision and training, assisting with discharge disposition, and collaboration with providers and other professionals in the coordination of care. The SUD clinical supervisor actively participates in quality improvement initiatives, staff training and business development presentations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and promote the professional development of clinical staff and document supervision according to regulatory requirements. a. Co-Sign required documents according to national and state regulations (eg. ASAMs, treatment plans, Follow Up Documentation).
  • Assist with formal training within areas of expertise as relevant to clinical care and best practice. a. Offer ongoing training, support, and coaching to staff members. b. Onboard new staff
  • Maintain and assure consistent service delivery for patients receiving care through observing clinical processes and monitoring the fidelity of the clinical care provided in the program

  • Have understanding of confidentiality requirements that impact addiction treatment and incorporate this into supervision and patient care processes
  • Promote a culture of outcome-based assessment and utilization of proven outcomes to drive care. a. Utilize and encourage utilization of patient outcome measures to drive recommendations for care. b. Monitor and share program outcomes to ensure health of the clinical programming offered.
  • Assure documentation of treatment plans, hierarchies and psychosocial information and completeness of the medical record
  • Develop and monitor clinical leadership standard practice using metrics and performance-based outcomes
  • Provide direct Patient Care a. Provide direct patient care with providers and other health care professionals as necessary to meet patient/family treatment needs and expectations. b. Provide individual, family and group psychotherapy as indicated. c. Establish and monitor clinically appropriate assessment to assist with treatment planning and determining appropriate dispositions. d. Provide professional leadership concerning clinical assessment, treatment, management issues and provide consultation/supervision to direct service staff as part of daily interdisciplinary services. e. Supporting group non-attendance and alternative treatment options for patients as needed. f. Support with complicated cases and difficult discharge dispositions. g. Request For Discharge follow ups—Motivational Interviewingmeetings. h. Provide substance use groups and individual sessions for non-MHAR programs, as needed.
  • Collaboration with the treatment team a. Ongoing in the moment trainings on the unit (modeling/coaching) b. Therapeutic milieu support c. Attend and support debriefs. d. Evaluating patients for psychological and physical safety after critical incidents e. Be open to change and actively support change. f. Be open to others’ ideas and points of view.
  • Treatment agreement development and implementation
  • Conduct periodic record audits of medical records to assure proper documentation for patients receiving substance use disorder treatment to assist with any training and/or regulatory gaps.
  • Provide interim coverage, as needed, across the system regarding mental health and addiction.
  • Communication. a. Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings. b. Communicate with aftercare providers to ensure continuity of care. c. Establish and maintain strong lines of communication with Addiction Service leadership, Directors of Operations and other departments, as needed. d. Participate in weekly supervision sessions with the clinical program director and communicate with the clinical program director on an ongoing basis regarding clinical issues.
  • Maintain own licensure and credentialing.
  • Promote department goals as well as the mission of Rogers Behavioral Health. a. Communicate goals to fellow staff members. b. Demonstrate measurable goal achievement. c. Maintain department policies and procedures.

Education/Training Requirements:

  • Successful Completion of a Master’s, degree in Social Work, Counseling, psychology, or related fields. With full, independent licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent in state and Independent Clinical Supervisor License Required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience post licensure is strongly preferred.
  • Specialization in child and adolescent services, addiction recovery, and/or adult mental health recovery (multiple specialties preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills, customer focus, proficiency, leadership ability, and professional integrity.
  • Electronic medical record software experience.
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced detail-oriented environment while adhering to deadlines.
  • Formal self-defense training is required within sixty (60) days of the date of hire/transfer. Annual recertification is required.
  • Compliance with RCC and CBRF employee requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment background and drug screen.
  • Must be fully vaccinated for Covid unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
