The Science in Motion Program at Elizabethtown College is currently seeking a grant funded, part-time
Science in Motion Mobile Educator to support the Director in day-to-day operations of a Science Outreach Program supporting local middle and high schools.
Job Duties
- Prep basic biology, biotechnology, chemistry, environmental, physical, earth science experiments
- Maintain and update inventory of equipment and consumables
- Maintain the chemical inventory and manage the library of material safety data sheets
- Consult with Director to order lab supplies, equipment and consumables
- Clean/update equipment and refurbish consumables/chemicals when returned from a school
- Load and unload equipment and supplies in the van (able to lift up to 50 pounds)
- Maintain, clean and troubleshoot equipment
- Work with vendors and/or repair persons
- Schedule visits and deliver equipment to schools in Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks & Schuylkill via the EC-SIM vehicle.
- Aid resident teachers in demonstrations and/or directing students in the use of equipment
- Perform clerical duties as required to complete, organize and maintain records of school visits, equipment inventory, student contacts etc.
- Conduct all responsibilities in a safe manner according to regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
Required Qualifications
- PA teaching certification in education, biology, chemistry or related science area.
- Secondary science teaching (6th-12th) and ability to work successfully with teachers at all levels of career development
- This position requires a valid driver’s license for business travel purposes (individual must have a US driver’s license for at least three years; a motor vehicle record check will be run and the incumbent must pass the College’s MVR rating system).
- Successful completion of PA Criminal Record Check, FBI Fingerprinting and Child Abuse History Clearances

- Previous experience in science outreach is desirable
- Knowledge of Science in Motion is desirable
Physical Demands
- Ability to load and unload science equipment from a vehicle, stack items on shelving
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
