Full Job Description

Scientist I – DNA Libraries

BioLoomic’s Mission:

BioLoomics is developing safer, more effective cancer medicines through innovative antibody solutions.

Our mission is to leverage directed evolution in human cells to discover programmable antibody degraders of therapeutic targets. Our platform combines synthetic biology, robotics, imaging, and machine learning to perform a function-first search of antibody design space at ultra-high throughput. We are building a highly cross-functional team that will do cutting-edge drug discovery and development. We are a people first company.

The Contribution You Will Make:

BioLoomics is seeking an experienced Scientist I, centered on DNA variant library development. You will be responsible for designing and creating large diversity DNA plasmid libraries that will be used to generate both phage and mammalian cell libraries, and which serve as a critical foundation of our drug discovery and development process. These DNA libraries will encode for strategically randomized variants of antibody scaffolds, as well as non-traditional protein scaffolds. You will have a unique opportunity to execute and optimize our novel DNA assembly cloning strategy that overcomes limitations found in Gibson assembly, Golden-Gate and traditional T4 ligase-based approaches. You will work alongside a broader team of 5 scientists that have strong molecular and cell biology skills. You will work closely with another DNA centric Scientist and report to the R&D Lead. This role is 100% on-site, fulltime with a semi-flexible work schedule, and will require light weekend work to inoculate/harvest E.

coli cultures.

The Impact of Your Work:

Successful execution by you and your team will lead to the discovery of novel antibody designs that will progress to the clinic and have the potential to become life-saving medicines for people in need. You will also play a critical role in maturing a novel antibody modality that has the potential to unlock new therapeutic targets.

Your Core Responsibilities:

● DNA transformation, amplification, and purification from E. coli.

● Plasmid Design, Primer design, PCR, and Ultra-large scale DNA assembly.

● RT-PCR & NGS library preparation, and in some cases in-house sequencing using the Oxford

Nanopore technology.

● Careful and thorough lab note taking and data compilation.

● Author and/or contribute to abstracts/manuscripts, patents, study reports, and regulatory submissions.

The Skills & Experience That Are Required:

● Ph.D. or a B.S./M.S. with at 2-4 years’ experience (academic or industry) with molecular cloning

(ligation, DNA assembly, recombination).

● Ability to independently plan, execute, and problem solve PCR, DNA cloning.

● Well-developed organization and verbal communication skills.

● Experience compiling and presenting data to science-oriented audiences.

● Adaptability and flexibility to work in a dynamic startup environment.

The Skills & Experience That Are Preferred:

  • Knowledge of protein engineering
  • Knowledge of protein trafficking in cells
  • Knowledge of DNA library prep/NGS

What We Offer:

● A collaborative and rewarding environment for cutting edge innovation of technology, therapies, and science towards a cohesive goal of making better cancer therapies.

● Opportunity to help fuel R&D at a fast-growing startup and to help drive the company’s success.

● Competitive compensation and benefits package, including a salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 per year (title and salary commensurate with experience), matching 401k, medical, dental, vision and stock options.
