Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Position Summary
This position is responsible for the security at the assigned site. The officer will conduct patrols ensuring all doors and windows of the facility have not been compromised. The officer will lock and unlock doors within the facility as necessary and in accordance with post orders. The officer will check the identification of all suspicious persons. The officer will assist employees and guests with escorts, disabled vehicles, all hazards, power outages, heating and cooling problems and report same to UNC Dispatch. The officer is responsible for arriving on time and in full uniform.
The Officer should notify supervisors and/or the Security Manager of any problems or incidents that might occur on their shift. This position is one that is necessary to ensure University operations continue uninterrupted during periods of adverse weather and /or other emergency situations, including those that cause the University to close. As such you may be required to report to work according to your usual schedule or upon notification to report outside of your usual work schedule.
Monitor crimes in progress and communicate information to responding officers via UNC Dispatch.
Provide attention to detail. Complete daily reports concerning task and assignments completed during duty hours. Work individually and independently in a generally unsupervised position.
Performs protective, security, enforcement, and public contact work in a security assignment at the assigned site location. Work involves participating in the locking and unlocking of property and patrolling the interior and exterior of facilities via foot, protection of all artworks on site.
Must resolve daily work problems and uniform/equipment problems, monitor radio traffic and file daily activity reports. Work includes guarding property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards; monitoring assigned areas for possible violation of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognizing and reporting unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations; providing information and assistance to the public; operating and maintaining security equipment and providing escorts to patron’s vehicles as requested. Work requires knowledge of standard safety, surveillance, security practices and equipment; knowledge of standard methods of reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances and fires, medical and security threats; and knowledge of security/enforcement policies, rules, and regulations. Works with TPS Parking Enforcement requesting parking citations and towing. Maintains confidentiality and discretion in the course of conducting business; works individually and/or with others; and adapts to change and circumstances.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require valid N.C. driver’s license.

Must have at least two years’ experience working security Or Law Enforcement within a campus environment.
Must have adequate knowledge in protective, security and enforcement practices. Must have knowledge of the policies, rules and regulations applicable to the property being guarded, sufficient to make decisions in unique or unprecedented situations; assists when requested in creation or review of security policies, rules and regulations applicable to the property being guarded; communicates regarding issues that require significant judgment or interpretation with Security Supervisors, negotiating and resolving conflicts with the public, university officials, and other stakeholders; provides adequate training on security, patrol, and enforcement procedures to replacements guards.
Must have adequate knowledge in protective, security and enforcement practices. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strongly prefer candidates that have law enforcement/security experience and are familiar with providing security in a university facility setting. Prefer candidate that are familiar with the UNC Chapel Hill campus.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to lift/move animals weighing up to 40 pounds and be able to patrol interior and exterior of facilities on foot and climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
