POSITION: Senior Accountant POSTING DATE: 5-5-23

SALARY: $18.86 PAYGRADE: 5

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the overall maintenance of all assigned accounts. The Senior Accountant works under the direct supervision of the Accounting Supervisor.


STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description
  • Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record
  • Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays

DUTIES:

  • Obtain a working knowledge of all funding agencies, and the related accounting and bookkeeping practices.
  • Ability to maintain filing and record keeping systems that are suitable for auditing.
  • Prepare draw requests and work with Contract and Grants Manager to submit to funding agencies.
  • Prepare deposits to submit to Finance Department.
  • Perform month end financial procedures.
  • Oversee Mohican Loan Department daily reconciliation, to include oversight of client records to assure audit compliance.
  • An understanding of approved bookkeeping practices and record keeping, including payroll, ledgers, and rent receipts.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of all required financial accounts on a monthly basis and make any necessary adjustments.
  • Assist with the preparation and conducting of all audits and reviews of external funding agencies.
  • Prepare financial reports due by the assigned funding agencies in a timeframe required by the contracts and grants. These reports to be submitted to the Accounting Supervisor for review of accuracy before being submitted for appropriate Tribal Office signature.
  • Review on a current basis all disbursements and receipts.
  • Responsible for accruals and closing entries for assigned programs.
  • Responsible for printing of trial balances.
  • Prepare journal entries for approval by the accounting supervisor.
  • Responsible for recording bank wire draws from Federal and State programs.
  • Responsible for calculating and recording cash clearing entries on a quarterly basis.
  • Must assist in preparing year end work papers for the annual audit.
  • Responsible for processing of bank deposits.
  • Ensure monthly financial reports are sent to program heads notifying them of the financial status of their departments.
  • Attend quarterly meetings with Accounting Supervisor and program heads to review the programs spending trends.
  • Attend all applicable training and meetings.
  • Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
  • Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
  • Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  • Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
