SENIOR RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, McGovern Institute for Brain Research-Fee Lab, to help manage the daily operations of the Fee Lab, which performs multidisciplinary research on the neural mechanisms of vocal control in songbirds. Responsibilities include general laboratory organization and management, including purchasing and inventory control; management of a zebra finch colony; assuring compliance with animal welfare and environment, health, and safety (EHS) regulations and that the lab passes monthly, biannual, and annual inspections; and small mechanical and electronic design and management of a small computer network. The position also offers an opportunity to directly participate in research projects, depending on experience and willingness to learn.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent, strong computer skills, comfort working with small animals as this work constitutes a large portion of the work week, prior exposure to a research lab, and basic knowledge of general laboratory practices and procedures. PREFERRED: bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, biology, or another technical field; experience with computer programming and electronics, mechanical skills and/or machine shop experience; and MATLAB experience.
