PCHC’s Hope House Health & Living Center is looking for a Shelter Navigator/Cook! In this innovative hybrid role, you’ll play a crucial part in serving people experiencing homelessness while working to ensure safe and effective shelter operations. You’ll provide nutritious meals and professional supervision to clients and play a major role in promoting a positive experience for all. Here you have the opportunity to truly make an impact. Schedule: Part-time (20 hours/week), Friday and Saturday, 8am-6:30pm

Highlights of the position:

Shelter Navigator:

  • Provides professional supervision to clients regarding personal hygiene and health concerns, especially regarding public health issues, by demonstrating empathy and appropriate guidance.
  • Maintains awareness of the condition of building, notifying supervisor of any issues that need attention.
  • Performs safety checks and responds to calls for assistance.

Cook:

  • Develops daily meal plans that utilize both donations and leftovers. Collaborates with Registered Dietician to ensure meal plans meet proper nutritional standards and are palatable.
  • Manages the appropriate handling, serving, and storing of food and food items.
  • Is resourceful and budget-conscious, working to keep food costs in-line.
  • Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and workspaces at all times, notifying supervisor of any issues that need attention.

Other:

  • Ensures open lines of communication with other staff members at all times to ensure safe and effective operations.
  • Demonstrates kindness and respect and maintains professional boundaries with all clients, vendors, and staff.
  • Collaborates with all levels of staff to improve the client experience. Advocates for excellent standards of customer service.
  • Adheres to the "Shelter Bill of Rights."
  • Participates in the maintenance of the donor log.

Education and Experience:

  • One year of experience in food service management and food preparation required.
  • Graduate of certified trade school with emphasis on quantity food preparation is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record for insurance purposes required.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
