Site Safety Manager Stillwater Mine
Reporting to: Operations Safety Manager
Position Purpose and Summary:
This position is responsible for leading the safety and health functions at the Stillwater Mine. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: continued development and implementation of the Sibanye-Stillwater GET Safe Safety and Health Management System, supervision of safety and health staff, providing coaching and technical support to site managers, maintaining regulatory compliance, interfacing with regulatory agencies at the local and district level and establishment and maintenance of departmental budgets.
This person will help to drive the creation of engaged workplace culture and provide the leadership that promotes continually exploring new approaches to improve worker safety and health throughout the operations. The successful candidate will represent Sibanye-Stillwater and its values to all employees and coordinate resources and efforts to compliment other areas in realizing overall mine goals.
Essential Functions:
- Provide leadership for safe and productive mine support operations.
- Coach and mentor the site leaders in accordance with S-SMC leadership qualities.
- Regularly interact and be visible with the workforce, demonstrating high-level leadership qualities.
- Work with site senior leadership team in continuing the development of a focused, engaged culture throughout the organization.
- Establish and execute short and long-term planning strategies that support the attainment of zero harm within the operation.
- Foster cooperation, collaboration, and innovation to ensure that realistic production and development goals are being set and met.
- Lead site safety and health team to ensure maximum support to site operations through technical knowledge and effective interaction with site operations personnel.
- Be pro-active in all aspects of the operation; safety, effective and efficient utilization of resources, productivity, Continuous Improvement initiatives, and teamwork across the site.
- Demonstrate positive two-way communication, fair and consistent administration of Company policies and procedures, and responsiveness to employee concerns.
- Develop and communicate site goals and initiatives in cooperation with other site managers.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required:
- Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision.
- Strong ability to coach and mentor others, both peers and subordinates.
- Solid understanding and applying of MSHA regulations and compliance.
- Degree in Safety, occupational health or it's equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of ten years of relevant experience, preferably in mining
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experienced in PC based software programs, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and business based software.
