New Teacher Center (NTC) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to disrupting the predictability of educational inequities for BIPOC students, multilingual learners, students experiencing poverty, and immigrant students by accelerating educator effectiveness. Your Impact:

The Program Consultant is instrumental in enacting NTC’s mission, vision, theory of change, and Program Theory of Action. This particular role will be a member of the Midwest team, supporting contracts primarily across our Midwest or Northeast partners but additional national work as needed. Program Consultants demonstrate a commitment to equity and deepening cross-cultural agility by exploring their own identity and biases to best combat historical and institutional inequities that plague the educational system. Program Consultants are effective in their focus on these practices:

  • Assessing student, school, and system needs in order to support systems and schools through consultation

  • Identifying and strengthening key conditions to leverage coaching models that actively engage educators in deepening the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the diverse needs of every student

  • Building the capacity of teachers and leaders to understand the needs of underserved students and implement equitable, culturally responsive, and standards-aligned curriculum and instruction

  • Prioritizing development through collaboration, meaningful feedback, and learning experiences and continually adapting, innovate, and remain responsive to the needs of our underserved students

  • Knowing our partners, their priorities, and obstacles to success and speaking the language of the district as trusted advisors

What Will You Do:

Under the direction of the Senior Program Consultant or the Director of the region, the Program Consultant may design and facilitate professional learning, coach leaders and teachers, and provide consulting on

program implementation in multiple contexts and across multiple contracts in the region. Staff in Program Delivery have job responsibilities that align to three categories of work: Project, People, and Region and Relationships. Some of the key functions of the Program Consultant role are outlined below.


  • Project: The majority of the Program Consultant’s time will be spent executing the delivery of services across multiple projects.

    • Design and Delivery of professional development: Use the content and instructional expertise to effectively create and deliver content aligned to an identified scope and sequence

    • Stakeholder Development and Support: Effectively coach stakeholder groups at the district and school level to support contract goals

    • Contract Strategy: Participate in the execution of contract strategy and/or take the lead on small contract strategy and management

  • People: While the Program Consultants do not directly manage staff, they still play an integral role in contributing to staff culture

    • Team Culture and Development: Support the Senior Program Consultant and Director in building team and org culture

    • Feedback: Give informal feedback to peers and supervisors

    • Organization Priorities: Demonstrate a commitment to organizational priorities and support partners in understanding them

    • Self-Development: Participate in internal learning opportunities

  • Region and Relationships: Program Consultants contribute to strengthening the work within their region as active participants in a variety of ways.

    • Renewals: Participate in the renewal process for assigned projects by contributing to proposals through brainstorming, discussion, and review

    • Client Relationships: Lead consultation, PD, and client relationships for smaller and more focused contracts; may support or be team members on larger contracts

    • Contract Adjustments:: Discuss potential contract adjustments with the manager, works with the manager to execute change orders; communicate to clients about changes where appropriate

    • Regional Strategy: Has awareness of the regional strategy; may engage with the Partnerships and Development team for specific projects within their scopes of work


What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of recent classroom teaching experience in (K-12) preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years designing and facilitating professional learning for adults, and experience coaching/mentoring teachers and/or school leaders

  • Experience leading a program or a team to execute an extended program or strategy is preferred

  • Must be experienced with the shifts in standards based on Common Core, know aligned effective teaching practices

  • Valid teaching and/or administrative certificate/licensure

  • Effective organizational skills - the ability to work across multiple projects and successfully manage one’s time and productivity in a fluid, team-oriented work environment with a high level of initiative, creativity, and flexibility. Successfully balancing travel, delivery, design, and participation in internal learning, team meetings, and other org and team collaboration opportunities.

  • Willingness to travel based on office location/client or project assignments – up to 50%

  • General knowledge of Google Apps, Adobe Acrobat, virtual meeting software, and experience with assessment data desirable
