Job description
The Social Media Coordinator (Fixed-Term) is responsible for the day-to-day administration of FAMSF's social media accounts, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. In collaboration with the Assistant Social Media Manager, you bring the de Young and Legion of Honor Museums to life on social media by connecting with our vibrant communities. Whether you're crafting an Instagram Story or DMing with our fans, you bring enthusiasm to managing our social media presence. Our team's goal is to grow engagement and awareness of our Museums online, through equal parts strategic thinking and creativity. We're looking for a self-starter who believes in the power of the arts and is passionate about our unique San Francisco community.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drafts copy and sources visuals optimized for each channels, making sure that our content schedule is up-to-date and ready for review and approval.
- Strengthens relationship with our online community by responding promptly to questions and comments in our institutional tone and voice across all social media channels.
- Internal leader of social creative best practices and ever-evolving digital trends on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms. Makes strategic recommendations to pivot campaigns as needed.
- Tracks analytics to establish key success patterns and target demographics. Prepares periodic reports that detail key metrics and makes recommendations on strategy pivots based on findings.
- Assists with influencer strategy and cultivation.
- Champions our social media strategy and industry best practices and news to a variety of internal stakeholders through clear and concise communication.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues across departments to bring the in-gallery experience to life online.
- Captures content at the de Young and Legion of Honor as needed. This includes after hours events identified by the Digital Engagement Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in communications, social or digital media, or a related field.
Work Experience: Minimum of two years of work experience in the social media/communications field.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledgeable about social media best practices
- Excellent project manager
- Eager to collaborate with variety of stakeholders
- Understanding of social media analytics
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to seamlessly juggle changing circumstances and competing priorities
- Basic knowledge of photo and video editing
- Discretion to handle confidential information
- Absolute attention to detail
- Ability to work nights and weekends

Union: The starting rate for this role is $27.23 per hour. This rate is step 1 of a 7 step union pay scale.
This is a 6-month union position eligible for the Museums' benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance plus a generous time off package.
