The South Dakota Department of Social Services, Division of Medical Services also knowns as South Dakota Medicaid plays a vital role in the healthcare of many South Dakotans. The program is one of the largest healthcare insurers in South Dakota, covering 153,826 individuals in state fiscal year 2022. The program primarily covers children of low‐income families including approximately 50 percent of children in South Dakota under age one. Other individuals covered by South Dakota Medicaid include low-income pregnant women, parents, and other caretaker relatives, seniors in nursing homes, and individuals with physical or developmental disabilities.
The South Dakota Medicaid Senior Project Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring successful implementation and execution of Medicaid projects and operations. Duties of this position include:
- coordinates and assists the Medicaid Director in implementing strategic policies and leadership initiatives to assist the division meet its strategic priorities and increase efficiencies;
- coordinates and assists with the operation of the Medicaid Advisory Committee, Tribal Consultation, Medicaid recipient/provider advisory outreach, and other boards, councils, and committees as assigned by the Medicaid Director including taking and publishing minutes with excellence;
- maintains a master log of Director's projects, Division projects, and recipient and provider inquiries and resolution;
- communicate and problem-solve to foster professional interpersonal relationships between the Medicaid Director, division staff, state agencies, and other stakeholders as needed;
- advises the Medicaid Director and senior staff of operational and policy concerns;
- responds to inquiries from Medicaid staff and other department units, state officials, and the public;
- manages all aspects of the Medicaid Director's daily calendar and travel needs, ensuring that meetings run on time, are not double-booked, that the Director has prep materials ahead of time and time between meetings, and that travel details are confirmed/authorized;
- coordinates staff engagement initiatives and activities;
- organize, prepare, and coordinate trainings and webinars for Medicaid providers and the public;
- research, review, and prepare various reports for the Medicaid Director;
- research and analyze data for accuracy, trends, variances, and updates to ensure acceptable policies and procedures have been followed and for compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations related to Medicaid;
- collaborate with technical resources, contractors and others to ensure changes follow Medical Services, State, and Federal requirements and regulations and develop project activities for continued compliance.
- establishes, maintains, and manages the division’s internal process documents including communicating updates to key personnel;
- follow-up on plans, programs, policies and procedures to ensure uniform compliance;
- assist senior division leadership with implementing continuous quality improvement activities;
- research and investigates program and procedural problems or areas assigned by the Director;
- coordinate and assist with division hiring and recruitment efforts and leads the new employee onboarding, new supervisor training, and employee offboarding;
- manage and coordinate updates to the division’s forms and publications;
- oversee and coordinate updates to the division’s website;
- draft, proofread, edit, and distribute key division communications and reports;
- performs other duties as assigned by senior division leadership.
Licenses and Certifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
