How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?

The Senior Director, CIPO is a leadership position on the Technical Strategies and Innovation (TSI) team within the Medical and Scientific Affairs unit at EGPAF. TSI is charged with ensuring the technical quality of EGPAF’s multi-sectoral programming, designing and advancing innovative approaches, managing privately-funded projects with a focus on catalytic evidence-generation, and expanding EGPAF’s role in providing external TA to a suite of partners.

As part of EGPAF’s strategic prioritization on technical excellence, innovation and external TA, TSI has a critical role in defining, packaging and bringing to scale evidence-based models which improve the health outcomes for children, adolescents, youth and families in HIV, TB, MNCH, COVID and other health areas. The CIPO team is one of four units within TSI, and has four key objectives:

  • To demonstrate how new/optimized technologies (including digital health), drug formulations and service delivery models can be introduced and scaled in real-world settings, with particular focus on pediatric/adolescent/youth HIV and TB services;
  • To generate evidence and lessons, through implementation, program optimization and embedded research, to enable health systems, EGPAF and partners to transform demonstration projects into catalytic initiatives at scale;
  • To rigorously and continuously use our data to identify areas for program optimization and catalytic investment;
  • To package and broadly disseminate (internally and externally) data, approaches and guidance to support EGPAF and partners to optimize the impact of pediatric, adolescent, and youth HIV and TB services.

No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?

  • Lead, manage and support the professional development of the CIPO team, including four direct reports and 16 additional team members based across the US, Geneva and Africa;
  • Work in close coordination with members of the TSI leadership team to ensure that CIPO is effectively positioned to implement innovation-driven projects, provide evidence to inform the work of EGPAF’s PEPFAR programs, and position EGPAF for increased external TA roles;
  • Substantially contribute to the design, development and operationalizing of catalytic projects at EGPAF, which includes providing day to day oversight of the projects alongside country teams;
  • Provide overall direction and support to advance EGPAF’s pediatric and adolescent portfolio, under the day to day direction of the Director, Pediatric Services;
  • Provide overall direction and support to advance EGPAF’s program improvement agenda and ensure that EGPAF’s PI portfolio informs and advances evidence generation for improved programming;
  • Grow and maintain strong working relationships with non-USG donors, including but not limited to ELMA, Viiv, Johnson and Johnson;
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the emerging trends and priorities in the global HIV response and community, including PEPFAR and Global Fund priorities;
  • Provide overall direction and guidance to the scope of the Impact Senior Technical Officer and other team members to ensure excellent, timely packaging of EGPAF’s proven approaches to inform both internal and external dissemination and scale.

To be successful, you will have:

  • 15+ years increasingly senior responsibility in a global health organization, preferably with PEPFAR/CDC/USAID implementing experience;
  • Excellent ability to strategically connect the innovation portfolio with the design of catalytic projects;
  • Strong management skills and emotional intelligence to effectively manage and lead a high-performing, global team

Bonus points if you have:

  • MD or MPH preferred
