Position Description
The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation has an exciting opportunity for candidates who want to make a difference in the lives of Nevada’s unemployed. We are hiring for a Staff Professional Trainee to underfill current and future Unemployment Insurance (UI) Rep 3 vacancies in Carson City. This is a unique opportunity to get your foot in the door of a position with tremendous opportunity for growth. After the first year as a Staff Professional Trainee, and with the approval of the appointing authority, the incumbent will progress to the Unemployment Insurance Rep 3 position.
The UI department has multiple career pathways for the motivated candidate to work their way up the state service ladder into supervisory and management positions. As incumbents get job skills and put in the required time, they become eligible for UI Rep 4 and 5 positions, ESD Program Specialists and ESD Manager positions.
Unemployment Insurance Representatives perform a broad variety of activities related to the timely and accurate processing of unemployment insurance benefit claims. Typical duties include: Learning and utilizing knowledge of unemployment insurance regulations, state laws, administrative policies, procedures, processes and computer system; conduct fact finding telephone interviews to gather information from claimants, employers and other parties; request documentation needed to substantiate information received, determine when additional or rebuttal fact-finding is needed to make a decision; write determinations concerning entitlement to unemployment insurance benefits and tax rulings for base period employers; identify and resolve additional adjudication or integrity issues; investigate claims paid for quality control, fraud detection and overpayment recovery; respond to questions from claimants, employers and other agencies seeking information regarding unemployment insurance benefits; and perform related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: interviewing, investigating, making eligibility determinations; providing social services to the public; or adjusting insurance claims.

Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field; OR two years of journey level technical or paraprofessional experience in the field in which the applicant is to be trained.
