Staff Specialist - City Schools Persists
Job description
In agreement with our union partners, we are now requiring all staff members to have received both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine by November 1, 2021. Supports strategy, development and implementation and management guidance and support for City Schools' College Readiness initiatives that support a student from post-secondary acceptance through their transition to post-secondary programming. The Staff Specialists-City Schools Persists works to ensure that every student successfully enters and transitions to a post-secondary opportunity after the completion of high school.
- Manages, develops, continuously improves and monitors the City Schools-Persists readiness programs and services.
- Ensures a strong focus on closing the achievement gap and increasing positive postsecondary outcomes for all students in assigned areas of programmatic support.
- Works collaboratively with schools, community partners colleges, and employers to establish a comprehensive district post-secondary roadmap to ensure that students have the opportunity and preparation to enroll in college, enter the military, join the workforce or participate in a training program.
- Provides support to principals and school counselors in developing and evaluating the implementation of school-based Post-Secondary Transition programs and services.
- Supports coordination of professional development for school counselors and College and Career team leads with regards to City Schools Persists programming.
- Supports implementation of initiatives to build more community resources and program options for Post-Secondary Transition.
- Works in partnership with the Office of Special Education, Transition Services to support the development of a comprehensive post-secondary transition plan for all students
- Creates and maintains up-to-date post-secondary pathways information based on local workforce needs and advises students and instructors on college and career choice.
- Works with the Communications and Family and Community Engagement Offices to communicate accessibility to college, career, military, and financial aid information through reference materials and computer-based information systems.
- Works closely with the work-based learning team to help curate opportunities for students who choose to pursue the workforce after college.
- Collaborates with the Division of Research and Accountability to analyze data around high school graduation, college applications, college acceptances, college enrollment, ASVAB, ACT, SAT and PSAT test scores,
- Supports implementation of City Schools Navigator Center.
- Manages the implementation and support for individual postsecondary plans for all students
- Monitors local, state, and national initiatives and best practices in career and college transitional programs to ensure that were applicable are adopted by the City Schools.
- Attends appropriate local, state, and federal conferences and seminars.
- Serves on committees related to post-secondary transition.
- Assists in coordinating school-based college/career transition activities and the career fair.
- May assist in writing annual grant applications.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, School Counseling or a related area. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
- Three years' experience in working with college and/or career readiness and access and transition
- Effective project management experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of effective college and career readiness strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of current practices of college counseling and post-secondary advising.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective leadership and management skills that demonstrate the ability to accomplish successful education outcomes.
- Experience in working with diverse populations.
- Good organization and analytical skills.
- Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet established schedules and timelines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District personnel and community partners.
