Position Summary

The Transfer/Career Specialist (Enterprise Campus) responsibilities are to assist in the assessment of potential SSS participants, complete comprehensive needs assessments for participants; identify those participants requiring information about the transfer process, provide counseling; coordinate campus visits for potential transferees; maintain and provide current information related to financial aid resources, including key contacts, facilitate the transfer process; assist students with selecting majors, provide academic and career advising, develop career workshops; develop and maintain relationships with local employers to assist students in career; track all transfer and career placements post program completion; maintain accurate documentation. Assist students in completing job applications, writing resumes, and preparing for job interviews. The Transfer/Career specialist organizes campus visits and cultural activities for participants under the direction of the Student Support Services Project Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in identifying students eligible for Student Support Services (SSS) and to complete initial assessments on these students.
  • Identify (SSS) students in need of both transfer information and financial resources to enable them to transfer to a senior institution.
  • Assist SSS students in choosing a major and administering interest inventories.
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions with SSS students to determine individual transfer needs.
  • Conduct career awareness workshops for all transfer oriented SSS students. Prepare materials for posting to the SSS websites.
  • Disseminate information about transfer institutions, financial resources and admissions requirements.
  • Maintain, update and disseminate a list of key financial and admission personnel at senior institutions.
  • Facilitate eligible transfer student (group and individual) visitations to selected senior institutions.
  • Create and maintain a library of materials for 4 year colleges and career information
  • Maintain contact with admission and scholarship representatives from four year institutions and stay abreast of admission and scholarship requirements to their associated institutions
  • Track SSS students who have transferred to a four-year institution and provide a report each semester to the Program Director.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services provided.
  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director and/or the Dean of Students.

  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Effective oral, auditory and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, other employees, and the public is required.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or a related field.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including those from physically, economically, and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Experience in providing student affairs programming.
  • Excellent communication skills and abilities to work with diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in advising in a college or related setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience in working with senior colleges is preferred .

SALARY:
Salary Schedule E3 03 $43,464-$59,225, based upon the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule to be determined by the applicant’s education and years of applicable experience. Applicant acknowledges that if selected for the position that applicant’s placement on the applicable salary schedule will be dependent upon the verified information provided. (This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is dependent on continued funding.)
