Position Purpose
The Supplier Diversity Program Manager will be responsible for developing, leading, growing, and maintaining Dartmouth’s Supplier Diversity Program, fostering a more diverse and inclusive supplier base.
The key areas of responsibility include developing and administering the Supplier Diversity Program; managing and maintaining data, reporting, policies and processes; engaging with campus partners; and establishing business relationships vendors and organizations across the broader diversity community, locally, regionally, and nationally. This position will also need to be comfortable with procurement activities such as sourcing, negotiating, and bidding.

  • Ability to manage data and systems and clearly identify, report and present key findings
  • Capacity to work independently as well as with others in a diverse and decentralized institution
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Aptitude for innovation Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population


Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 or more years of relevant experience developing and managing a supplier diversity program or corporate social responsibility role
  • Procurement experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Strong conceptual thinking skills and experience leading others through ambiguous and complex issues supporting key operational issues
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain influential and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners

Management and Administration of Supplier Diversity Program
  • Define, organize and execute a detailed strategic plan for formalizing all aspects of the procurement lifecycle for diverse suppliers.
  • Establish more equitable and inclusive procurement practices by enhancing processes, technologies, and policies
  • Organize, oversee, and maintain supplier diversity data, ensuring classifications are correctly assigned and easily reported on. Establish baseline spend, goals, metrics, reporting standards and growth strategies.
  • Understand and manage sponsored program/grant requirements.

Campus Engagement
  • Partner with College buyers and other stakeholders to support purchasing decisions and actions, directly with departments and as a dedicated resource to internal Procurement specialists.
  • Develop training and education for the campus departments on the importance and impact of their support of our Diverse Supplier community.
  • Establish methods to raise the awareness and visibility of these efforts, including enhancing Dartmouth’s Supplier Diversity website content

Building Relationships
  • Serve as the primary contact for Dartmouth’s diverse business relationships, as well as with advocacy organizations to strengthen the pipeline of prospective suppliers.
  • Improve engagement and interaction between Dartmouth and all existing diverse suppliers, promoting opportunities and providing greater insight into doing business with Dartmouth.
  • Represent Dartmouth on industry committees, boards, and at major supplier diversity events to build connections and demonstrate the College’s support.

  • Conducts sourcing for key services and materials, developing competitive contracts and agreements with vendors.
  • Exercises independent judgment in committing College funds for the procurement of a wide variety of material, equipment, and services.
  • Uses knowledge of procurement processes and practices to improve sourcing, bidding, negotiating and contracting for the College.

  • Participate on cross-functional teams by assuming an active, collaborative role.
  • Represent Procurement in meetings, activities, and working groups
