JOB TITLE: Surgical Service’s Manager

J OB SUMMARY:

Surgical Services Manager is responsible for the operation, administration, technical supervision, and management for the surgery department. Individual will collaborate with members of the medical staff to ensure efficient utilization of designated resources for optimal patient care and will provide oversight of any surgical services area as is necessary to meet patient, client and staff needs.

Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer

Supervises: All clinical and ancillary support personnel involved in Pre-Op; PACU I; PACUII; Endoscopy Service; Operating Rooms; Central Processing; O.R. scheduling flow

Classification: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

Diploma from accredited nursing program.

Current Licensure as registered nurse in state of Wyoming.

Minimum of 3 years management experience in peri-operative care in hospital setting.

3-5 years as a OR Nurse required

Certification in area of specialization

PALS or ENPC and ACLS or successful completion within 3 months of hire date.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:

Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises all nursing and ancillary support personnel involved in Pre-Op; PACU I; PACU II; Endoscopy Service; Operating Rooms; Central Processing; O.R. scheduling flow; and CSR/daily logs.

2. Works closely with CNO and CEO to establish policy and standards of nursing care and practice at facility.

3. Consults with Medical Director with regard to medical problems.

4. Communicates closely with facility Scheduler regarding approved procedures. Checks draft of each operating schedule in advance and makes necessary corrections.

5. Works closely with the CNO to review and revise current facility policies and procedures.

6. Collaborates with the CNO and Safety Committee to develop and monitor orientation policies and procedures to provide competent staff.

7. Coordinates in-service programs and scheduling staff meetings.

8. Provides an adequate monitor of qualified staff. Coordinates, assigns, and/or provides relief coverage according to needs of the clinical areas. Substantiates all overtime hours to the CNO.

9. Coordinates vacation and time off schedules with approval from CNO.

10. Performs annual evaluations and monitors job performance of staff to confirm compliance with policies and personal protection.

11. Affords efficient flow of procedures by monitoring surgeon availability, on time arrival, and informing surgeons of any delays.

12. Monitors sterilization procedures for instruments, supplies and storage.

13. Monitors efficient ordering of supplies and forwards purchase requests for capital equipment to CFO.

14. Meets with the CNO and manufacturer representatives regarding updates on equipment and new products.

15. Serves as member of the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Committee to report complication data and infection control statistics.

16. Reviews variance reports filed by staff members. Completes investigative documentation as appropriate and forwards to CNO.

17. Communicates with staff, peers, administration, physicians, patients, and families in an open, direct, and honest manner.

18. Approves staff requests for time off.

19. Behave and dress in a professional and courteous manner consistent with facility Standards of Behavior.

20. Performs additional duties assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
