POSITION SUMMARY


The Associate Systems Administrator (ASA) will assist in configuring and maintaining all end-user equipment, including desktop computers, notebook computers, monitors and printers. The ASA will also be the point of contact for help desk support, assisting end-users with technical questions, and troubleshooting. The ASA will also assist the Systems Administrator with various technical tasks including network system maintenance and upgrades for Microsoft Active Directory, and with special projects. The ASA is required to physically work onsite.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Support for UH Foundation Staff/Users


  • Assists end-users, doing research and performing issue escalation as necessary.


  • Executes configuration and maintenance of all end-user equipment, including desktop computers, notebook computers, monitors and printers.


  • Performs installation and configuration of operating system software, including maintaining software patches and fixes.
  • Researches, recommends, supports, tests, and maintains computer software applications needed by Foundation staff to accomplish their daily tasks.


  • Advises and assists users in evaluating and selection appropriate computer hardware and software for purchases and upgrades.
  • Ensures accurate and timely user account creation, maintenance, and termination. Provides new user training to staff and student employees.


  • Sets up meeting equipment and assists with Zoom and Teams online meetings.


  • Configures and maintains mobile devices.


  • Performs basic network troubleshooting. Monitor the status of UH system network through the UH ITS status page.


  • Maintains equipment inventory.


  • Provides normal and after-hours technical assistance for Foundation events.


  • Prepares and teaches training classes as required.


  • Writes and revises technical documents.


  • Keeps current on the latest technological events by research and attending training.


  • Performs other work duties as assigned.


Server/Network System Maintenance and Technical Support for Systems Administrator


  • Assist the Systems Administrator with systems projects, including server maintenance/upgrades/troubleshooting.


  • Assist with implementing security best practices.


  • Assist with networking projects, such as Cisco firewall, Cisco switches, Juniper switches configuration, cabling, diagraming and troubleshooting.


EVALUATION


The Associate Systems Administrator will meet annually with his/her supervisor to put in place a plan for the year. At the end of each year, the Analyst and his/her supervisor will review progress toward the annual goals.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related area and 2-4 years of experience in systems administration.


  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal) are required as this position will interact with UH Foundation staff, and with external parties, such as hardware/software vendor support staff.


  • Self-motivated and able to respond to high-pressure situations. Able to take action and progress with minimal direction. Ability to think outside the box to be able to troubleshoot issues outside of current knowledge.


  • A positive attitude and excellent human relations skills.


  • Ability to work flexible hours.


  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office and highly proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.


  • 1-2 years of experience with servers and server configuration, including knowledge of Windows Server operating systems.


  • 2-4 years of experience with Microsoft client operating systems (Windows 8.1+).


  • 2-4 years of experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and upgrades.


  • General knowledge of PC applications and software


  • Experience with general networking concepts.


  • Experience with Apple Mac hardware and software helpful.


  • Must be technically savvy to work on a variety of different projects requiring technical assistance and set-up.


  • Ability to multitask and work under conditions of frequent interruption.


PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • 3-4 years of experience working with servers and server configuration, including knowledge of Windows Server operating systems.
  • Project management experience is highly desirable.


WORKING CONDITIONS


Based at the First Interstate Building at 1314 S. King Street, Suite B, Honolulu, HI 96814, and the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa on the Island of Oahu, the position requires occasional travel, mostly by auto, but occasionally by other modes of transportation, and may occasionally require overnight and weekend stays. The ASA must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record or have an acceptable mode of transportation. The ASA may need to work weekends and evenings and must be able to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a 40-hour work week.
