POSITION SUMMARY:

The CTAE Teacher (Construction-CARPENTRY)is responsible for imparting knowledge and skills to high school students. The candidate will utilize research-based theories and strategies to teach, organize and implement structured lessons for construction.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructs students through effective differentiated teaching methods to ensure comprehension and mastery of content;
  • Prepares engaging and challenging lessons; attends faculty meetings and professional learning sessions (GACTE Summer Conference, APS Professional Development, etc.).
  • Maintains and advises an active Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO). Administers and/or supports the state and local standardized testing processes and policies;
  • Administers various types of assessments to monitor student's comprehension of content; enhances course content in the form of remediation, modification and enrichment; works collaboratively with Middle/High School teachers to vertically align curriculum and best practices, where applicable;
  • Effectively manages a positive environment that it is conducive to learning; maintains and monitors an effective learning environment free of hazard, ridicule and prejudice.
  • Assists with student management throughout the building, grounds and/or other district facilities; coordinates parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior and other issues;
  • Effectively communicates with students, parents and other stakeholders via verbal and written communication;
  • Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, breaches of ethics, or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware; and performs other duties as assigned by principal, immediate supervisor (principal's designee) and district‐level administration.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

Hold a high school diploma or a GED equivalent; and hold one of the following: a valid Level IV certificate in Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC or Plumbing issued by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER); a valid Level III certificate in Masonry issued by NCCER; a valid Contractor license issued by the Georgia Board of Construction Industry; or a valid Contractor license from the Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

  • Hold valid Level IV certificate in Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC or Plumbing issued by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER); a valid Level III certificate in Masonry issued by NCCER; a valid Contractor license issued by the Georgia Board of Construction Industry; or a valid Contractor license from the Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Professional certification at a T-4 level or higher, or be eligible to participate in the district's non-certification pathway

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years of occupational experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of fundamental principles in the areas of carpentry, occupational safety and employability skill development. Demonstrate effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organizational, management, computer/technology, and record keeping/data management skills. Ability to differentiate instruction and assess student performance.

Compensation

Salary Grade: T4 - T7

Salary Range: APS Teacher Salary Scale

Work Days: 202

This incentive is payable to new hires (new to APS) teachers only.
