The Summer Camp Senior Educator will join the Carnegie Museum of Natural History summer camp team to get hands-on experience engaging children in learning! As part of our team, you’ll create inviting, engaging, and safe experiences for our on-site, children’s day camps. In the role of Summer Camp Senior Educator, you’ll broaden your knowledge of natural history and facilitate hands-on activities in topics included, but not limited to, environmental science, biology, geology, and anthropology. Senior Camp Educators serve as leaders in camp programs and demonstrate strong classroom management skills in a complex environment, while balancing the goals of maintaining safety, having fun, and supporting children’s learning and personal growth. Camp curriculum is provided, and each camp has a classroom assistant to aide in facilitation.

Candidates should be available to work Monday - Friday, 7:30AM - 3:30PM in eight (8) of the eleven (11) weeks between June 5 and August 25. Two mandatory paid training days will be May 20 and June 3.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrate a passion for natural history education and embrace the museum’s student-centered, inquiry-based philosophy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience successfully deploying a range of classroom and behavior management strategies.
  • Prior experience working with children and/or adults in an educational capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree and experience presenting educational programs in informal settings are preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position requires constant mobility around the program space and through museum exhibit halls for several hours at a time.
  • If the person is not able to bend or lift items of 20 – 50 lbs, they must be willing to ask for assistance performing tasks that require these actions.
The following PA Act 153 clearances, or proof of application of clearances, are required beginning employment and as a condition of continued employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Obtaining the required clearances is completed as part of the new hire process.
