Toddler Teacher

Children’s Center of New Paltz, Inc.

CALENDAR: 30-35 hours/week, year round with college semester breaks

PAY: $16.50/hour to start

The Children’s Center is looking to welcome a full time toddler teacher to our small staff. Our center is in Ulster County in New Paltz, NY, housed on the SUNY New Paltz campus. We are not NY state employees. We are an independent, not for profit, childcare center. The right candidate is warm, patient, enjoys children, speaks with kindness, and works collaboratively with others.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Organize and implement developmentally appropriate activities to activate all domains of learning for children to work in a play-based environment including music, literature, and freedom of artistic expression.
  • Support the relationship bridge between home and school for the child by creating smooth transitions for children to come and go and maintain communication with the families as needed.
  • Attend to the daily hygiene of toddlers with diaper changes, and toilet training, relating to the child with a tone of kindness and patience.
  • Define daily routines and procedures with consistency so that the child can learn what to expect and what is expected of them.
  • Implement conflict resolution skills and a sense of humor to help children learn to navigate social situations.
  • Maintain weekly child observation log to collect data on the development and interests of the individual child throughout the year.
  • Evaluate and improve the physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child.
  • Speak with children with clear and concise expectations when disciplining to create an ongoing relationship based on respect and acceptance.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow staff to provide a nurturing indoor and outdoor classroom environment for children.
  • Attend meetings weekly with co-teachers and monthly with full center staff.
  • Able to lift 30 lbs. and easily move between standing and low level positions that best allow for physical and visual contact with children.

Associate's degree in Child Development, Child Development Certificate, and or equivalent degree (with 1 yr. experience with infants or toddlers); OR

Infant and Toddler Child Care and Education Credential or other Office-recognized credential specific to infant/toddler developmental period (with 2 yrs of experience with care of children); OR

Child Development Credential (with 2 yrs experience, 1 with care of toddlers or infants); OR

9 Credits in Early Childhood or a related field with a plan of study leading to Associates or other Office recognized credential (with 2 years of experience, 1 with care of toddlers or infants)
