Job description
This is a 2023 Summer position.
The trail crew monitors, repairs and maintains the Summit mountain bike trails. The trail crew also leads teams of volunteer conservation workers.
- Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude to ensure that participants have a safe and enjoyable experience. Where possible solve their needs and concerns, where not possible, steer them to someone who can.
- Maintain trails and features so that they can be utilized appropriately by program.
- Present a program that imparts sustainable trail maintenance techniques and knowledge that is safe, fun, interesting and challenging.
- Maintain a clean and efficient repair area
- Monitor inventory of spare parts and repair equipment and work with the Trail Crew Lead to order materials needed to keep program running safely.
- Use any and all safety equipment mandated in your work area.
- Insure proper use, security and care of repair parts and repair equipment.
- Assist in the opening and closing of the Summit Bechtel Reserve trails, tracks and other facilities
- Turn accurate paperwork in to supervisor in a timely manner
- Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Summit Bechtel Reserve Staff Handbook
- Participate in all camp-wide activities
- Any other duties as assigned by full-time staff and/or direct supervisor
Qualifications & Training:
- Be or become a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America
- 18 Years old or older
- Have experience maintaining trails, tracks or dirt jumps
- Have experience maintaining and organizing tools
- Experience operating heavy machinery helps
- Good organizational skills
- Must meet the Summit Bechtel Reserve's high adventure height/weight requirements as laid out in the Summit BSA Health & Medical Record
- Must be able to lift and handle materials weighing up to 70lbs
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency riding a mountain bike
