SUMMARY: The Transfer & Early Engagement Coordinator reports to the Associate Provost for Student Success, Equity and Innovation, and Director of Academic Support & Learning Services and will play a large role in the coordination and implementation of grant-related programs and services, and existing transfer services at Cal Poly Pomona (CPP).

Grant Management & Program Development
- The Transfer & Early Engagement Coordinator is responsible for meeting key implementation grant outcomes such as
- Creating a sustainable network of intersegmental, collaborative partnerships which support the increased transfer and graduation rates of underserved, first-generation transfer students;
- Fostering intersegmental pipelines for Underrepresented Minority Groups (URM) and underserved communities transferring to a California State University (CSU) in the Inland Empire;
- Increasing Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) and transfer pathways to CPP; and
- Creating a model for expanding guided pathways from enrollment at a community college to graduation at a four-year university by building on existing work to promote a transfer forward institution
- Oversee all activities related to grant outcomes and milestones by developing partnerships with K-12, CCC, and community leaders to enhance and strengthen the higher education pipeline.
- Responsible for tracking grant activities and creating reports on outcomes’ progress.
- Manage grant budget, tracking, and expenditures.
- Represent Cal Poly Pomona and collaborate with community college partners and other CSUs to develop intentional programs and services to develop and support underserved, underrepresented, first-generation transfer students.
- Collaborate and meet regularly with leadership from CSUSB to implement and meet grant outcomes.
- Collaborate with campus partners on developing new and enhancing existing programs and services to increase transfer success, retention, and graduation. Responsible for designing and implementing outreach and yield programs during the academic year and the summer [i.e., Summer Academy (ies)]
- Develop training materials and presentations to educate K-16 partners, educators, students and family members about ADT and STEM pathways, CSU admission guidelines, and financial aid.
- Develop and coordinate virtual and in-person outreach activities and presentations to high schools and community colleges.
- Assist in viability study of developing more intentional transfer pathways, particularly for STEM majors from local community colleges.
- Collaborate with campus partners to develop and facilitate outreach and culturally affirming programs and activities targeting first-gen, URM and Pell-eligible students.
- Hire, train and provide leadership to student assistants and peer mentors.
- Provide leadership and coordinate the annual regional transfer summit to disseminate information to campus patterners at CSUs, CCCs and community-based organizations.
- Collaborate with CPP and CCC partners in expanding the guided pathways model from CCC through the end of the 4-year college experience to create a more seamless transition to graduation experience.
- Develop a peer mentorship model in support of CCC students’ exploration through application process.
- Explore viability of transfer pathway mapping tools and platforms in the CSU to streamline intersegmental transitions.
- Identify and address systemic barriers and structural impediments at the institution and systems level.
- Collaborate with campus partners on dissemination of the Transfer Success Portal and its benefits for students.
- Develop application assistance workshops and programs for prospective transfer students.
Data Collection
- Develop assessment activities and reporting pertaining to grant activities and outcomes.
- Review local and statewide data to help inform practice.
- Create accessible transfer student data to share with public and cross-institutional partners.
- Collaborate in pulling and writing data summaries and writing grant updates and reports.
Student Development
- Hire, train and supervise program student assistants and peer mentors.
- Collaborate with Academic Support & Learning Services coordinators with student recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and provide leadership and direction to student leaders and mentors.
- Provide coaching and advising to prospective, pre-matriculated and matriculated transfer students.
- Have in-depth knowledge of Cal Poly Pomona program/resources/services, admissions process, financial aid, articulation, along with general knowledge of regional CCC campuses’ program/resources/services to effectively provide referrals and support students.
Transfer Programs Leadership
- Work with Director of Academic Support & Leadership in providing leadership and support to the Transfer Team (PolyTransfer, Transfer Advantage Program, and TRANSFERmation).
- Lead the PolyTransfer Program and the PolyTransfer Coordinator and Mt. SAC Transfer Advantage Coordinator in developing, coordinating, and implementing programming and initiatives to ensure students are receiving a seamless experience throughout their time at the CCCs and CPP.
- Provide support and leadership to transfer programs/initiatives.
- Assist in the hiring and onboarding process for Transfer Team staff.
- Coordinate regular meetings with Transfer Team to ensure information and updates are relayed, provide programmatic updates, calendar events, and address areas of need/support among the team.
General
- Provide support to the Associate Provost for Student Success, Equity and Innovation, and Director of Academic Support & Learning Services with Office of Student Success (OSS) and grant related activities and programs.
- Represent CPP at regional collaboratives.
- Participate in meetings and be a contributing member of the OSS team.
- When appropriate, support Academic Support & Learning Services and the OSS with programs and interventions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
- Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
- Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
- A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
- Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILIITIES
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
- General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned.
- General knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned.
- Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
- Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related
- Knowledge of the California Community College system and transfer student support tools such as Assist.org, transfer pathways, the CSU Application, and transfer student requirements is preferred.
Grant end date for this position is December 31, 2024.
