Job description
The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for contributing to the profitability and revenue goals of the department through delivery of individual account underwriting support and exceptional customer service. Their primary focus is to execute and manage the flow of work alongside the underwriter including submission review/information follow up, manual rating, creating and initial population of pricing models, billing transactions, policy and endorsement issuance and other post-bind tasks. Other duties include assisting the underwriter in the underwriting evaluation and pricing of individual accounts.
Job Responsibilities:- Review submissions, obtain pertinent underwriting information to enable or assist the underwriter to accurately identify and assess exposures and risk hazards
- Perform and/or coordinate completion of both pre-bind and post bind duties with timeliness and accuracy including: preparation of proposals and binders; account invoicing; policy and endorsement issuance and processing of reinsurance transactions
- Complete other underwriting account support tasks with minimal supervision as per company guidelines
- Adhere to all service standards and respond with urgency to all internal and external customer requests
- In partnership with the underwriter, provide complete and detailed documentation of the underwriting file for all discussions and decisions
- Perform special projects as assigned under minimal supervision
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively handle multiple assignments, prioritize work and meet deadlines in a dynamic and results oriented environment
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Highly motivated proactive approach to job responsibilities, anticipates renewal cycles, plans for the known
- Knowledge and working understanding of business and financial concepts
- Math and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a detail oriented environment where accuracy is critically important
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Strong customer service focus with the ability to effectively multi-task with limited direction
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Work, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Prior experience in an underwriting or administrative support role
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required; College preferred
