Job SummaryResponsible for operating a school van to transport Boston students from school to their home according to Scituate Public Schools, state and federal guidelines. Under general supervision, this position reports to the Business Finance Manager.Responsibilities and DutiesDrives a school van on an assigned route in order to pick up and discharge students.Performs daily pre-trip inspection as required by Massachusetts State Law.Properly fasten and secure as required by Massachusetts State Law.Inspects the van to ensure that all necessary safety equipment (ie, flares, fire extinguisher and first aid kit) is present.Maintains student discipline by verbal directions, reminders and written discipline reports according to district guidelines.Communicates with students, parents, staff and administrators.Demonstrates an interest in and empathy for children.Reports van malfunctions or suspected van malfunctions in writing to Bus Mechanic and/or Transportation Coordinator.Operates warning lights for student pick-up, discharge and operates hazard lights at railroad crossings.Operates a two-way radio properly.Reads and follows instructions from written materials: maps, route sheets, pre-trip instructions, field trips, etc.Completes required forms.Performs emergency first aid.Attends in-service and training programs as required.Sweeps daily, keeps interior clean.Reports all accidents and completes required forms.Checks inside of van after each route and at the end of the day.Keeps updated routes on van.Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED required. Proven experience and skill in the operation of a passenger school van. Considerable knowledge of the operation of basic automotive equipment.

Thorough knowledge of Massachusetts Transportation Laws. Valid Massachusetts License, 7D Certificate. Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate to children. Ability to pass a physical exam.

Employment based on successful completion of Fingerprint and CORI background check.Other Reports to the Business Finance Manager This is a 10-month position based on the school year. Salary to be determined.
