Job Summary: Veterinarian

As a mobile practice without a physical location at this time, we are looking for compassionate, adaptable doctors who easily connect with people and enjoy the freedom of not being tied down to an office.

Part-time contracted position (which can grow into full-time)

Schedule:

· 10 am – 4 pm Wednesdays and Fridays, with the possibility of additional hours if desired as we expand our services. .

· Due to the nature of our mobile clinic, Veterinarians must be able to access transportation to and from clinic locations across the Seattle and surrounding areas (including but not limited to Everett, Woodinville, and Burien)

Specific Duties

Provide Veterinary Care for Clients/Patients

  • Practice in accordance to state practice act and principles of veterinary medical ethics
  • Leverage evidence-based medicine and continue pursuit of education to deliver quality patient care
  • Adopt and positively impact new veterinary standards and guidelines
  • Deliver medical and surgical treatments with formulary approved pharmaceuticals, supplies, and equipment
  • Partner with clients as an advocate for the pet to plan follow-up visits, provide home-care instructions, and education to ensure the lifelong health of our patients
  • Maintain relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems, including SVO’s database, Evet.
  • Foster an effective veterinary support team by communicating medical standards, ethical practices, and your veterinary knowledge and experience with all veterinary staff/volunteers
  • Be willing to support and train new staff and volunteers with varying degrees of experience in the field

Professionalism

  • Maintain a professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude when interacting with clients and other team members
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions from supervisors
  • Report for scheduled shifts on time

Supervision

The Veterinarian works under the supervision of the Executive Director however, they will also receive direction from the Clinical Manager.

Requirements

Licensure Requirements

  • A State Controlled Substance (SCS) License may be required by the state in which you intend to work. If you do not already hold an SCS, SVO encourages you to obtain this license after your start date as the practice may reimburse this cost.
  • Once an associate has obtained their SCS, SVO will apply and pay for your DEA License.
  • New associates will be required to take their state USDA Accreditation class by the time they reach the 12-week mark from their hire date. Applicants already holding Accreditation will receive priority in hiring.

Physical Requirements

  • The Veterinarian will be required to stand for long periods, work outdoors in occasionally challenging weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, sun)
  • The Veterinarian must be able to safely and humanely handle and restrain (sometimes fractious and frightened) animals
  • The Veterinarian must not have allergies to pets that will impact their ability to perform job duties
  • The Veterinarian must be willing to submit to a criminal background check
  • Must be comfortable working with our unhoused and low-income neighbors in and out of doors
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, triage-based environment with many moving parts
  • Must be comfortable or willing to get comfortable practicing medicine outdoors, utilizing ambulances and tents to perform examinations and procedures

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months training/experience in animal health/welfare or veterinary medicine.
  • Compassionate, adaptable practitioner of high-quality veterinary medicine
  • Technologically savvy - we use a web-based clinic management program, and you must be familiar with or able to become familiar with MS Office programs

We will have sanitizing stations with supplies at each veterinary exam area, intake and donations.
Surfaces that people are in contact with are sanitized.
