Medlin Exotic Animal Medical Services (MEAMS) was founded in 2014 and has grown rapidly to fill the exotic veterinary needs of the Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Naples communities. Our clinic is currently a two-doctor practice that sees EXCLUSIVELY exotic animal patients, with the caseload being 30% birds, 25% rabbits and guinea pigs, 25% reptiles, and 20% rats/ferrets/hamsters/chinchillas/hedgehogs/sugar gliders. In addition to providing medical care, we strive to improve the owner-pet bond by improving the husbandry and general species knowledge for the benefit of both pet and owner.

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgery Technician to join a team committed to providing compassionate and quality care for exotic pets. Knowledge of, or a desire to pursue Clinic Manager duties would be a plus. MEAMS provides competitive wages and benefits comparable to other clinics in the area. Wages will be commensurate with level of experience in the various aspects of this job (anesthesia, exotics husbandry, Clinic Manager experience, total veterinary clinic experience, etc). Hourly wage could vary between $16-26/hour depending on level of experience with these different components of the job.

This job requires that the candidate be fully capable of sedating, medicating, recovering, and running anesthesia fully independently for a wide variety of surgical procedures on a wide variety of species. Candidates who do not have prior experience with running anesthesia on their own will not be considered. Candidates who are experienced with dog/cat anesthesia, but have minimal experience with exotics are strongly encouraged to apply. Prior experience with exotics is ideal, but not required.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of two years of experience in a veterinary clinic environment.
• Experience running anesthesia on exotics is preferred, but at a minimum must have experience running anesthesia and monitoring of dogs/cats independently
• Experience with exotics is preferred, but at a minimum must have strong interest in pursuing in-depth knowledge of exotics (Simply being willing to work with them is not considered the same as an “interest” in them.). If the candidate does not already have a strong background in exotic pet knowledge it will be assumed that you will seek this out. YOU MUST BE MOTIVATED ON YOUR OWN TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN! Classroom time to bring a new-hire up to speed will NOT be provided.

Desired Qualifications

• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Avimark.
• Familiarity with wide variety of species, as well as their preferred environments and the products on the market targeted toward these species
• Integrity, honesty, organization skills, seeks and implements greater efficiency in the workplace, communication skills, empathy, and open mindedness.

Pay: $16.00 - $26.00 per hour
